Hi all!
I was wondering, has anybody changed the taillights from the regular Firebird, say a 1985 up to a 1992, to the Trans Am/GTA taillights of a 1985 to 1990?
I was looking at some spares that I have, and I notice that there are different sockets to different spots between the two.
Did you just swap the light harness, or did you splice the wires, and tape off the ones you don't use?
I am thinking of swapping the regular Bird lights on my girlfriend's '91 Firebird with the ones off a '85-'90 Trans Am/GTA.
Thanks,
George

George,
Brian did this to his car using the stock harness but,
1. The outer most lights will be the turn signals unlike the T/A.
2. The way the light sockets are make the lights stick out more than usual.

Hi Alex!
I was wondering!
I couldn't get the light into the car with that turn signal socket!
Looks like I need a flat socket, not the cylinder one!
That's why I was wondering about splicing or replacing the whole harness!
Maybe I'll go look at the '91-'92 Trans Am/GTA taillights I have sitting out in the garage, and compare them to both the other sets! Well, I would right now, but it's raining! And we have a flood warning in effect! It looks flooded in my back yard!
Thanks,
George

'53? Plymouth Cambridge.
Anyways, why don't you put the 91-92 lights on her car? It would be easier since you could use the base harness and still make them light up correctly.

Hi Alex!
They have a few cracks!
I am hoping to get some NOS covers sometime!
I'll have to check the fit of the harness. maybe this weekend, if the rain stops!!!!!
So...............anything new??

I have a '91. I was thinking about changing to the GTA lights if I could afford it.
I swapped 85-90 T/A tails into my Formula. all i did was swap the stock turn signal socket with one off of a parts car to teh other style.
Alex,
The '91-'92 Trans Am/GTA taillights are just like the '85-'90 Trans Am/GTA taillights.
Only four big socket bulbs fit on each side!
The problem is, the turn signal socket needs to be flat to fit the ends, not the big cylinder style that the regular Firebirds use!
So, now I have to find some at the junk yards!
I searched all over out here, and none of the auto parts stores have any! Just the big cylinder ones! Whaaaaaaah!
Oh well, next time I'm out there I'll pick some up!
