Hatch Trim Project
I thought I would share with you what did this beautiful Sunday morning. For some reason I was up at 7:15am so I decided to go outside and clean the glass on my Camaro. Once I got it cleaned I realized just how bad the trim around the hatch glass looked. I guess this is what happens when you don't drive a car very much :0( Anyway since the sun was going to be out I decided to do something about it. I masked off around the glass which took the better part of an hour to do. I used some fine grit steel wool and went over all the trim and put some real effort in to the rust spots. Luckily it looked a lot worse that was so it came off and got pretty smooth. I ran up to O'Reiley's and got a can of Krylon semi-flat Rust Tough paint. It went on really easy and the nozzle on it really helped control the over spray. I think I did about 3 light coats making the 3rd one a little thicker since the metal was getting hot and it helped it set up. As you can see the pictures pretty much tell the story. I have to say for about $6 of materials and two hours of time it was well worth it. Now I just need to get the rest of the car painted! Its 11:38am now... what else can I work on?

Looks great! I getting ready to do the same thing and to the headlight pockets and trim and spray the inner fender area. Already did my hood and rear window louvers, fog light trim, and the front license plate trim piece, a month or two back. Made a HUGE difference. Used a couple of cans of Bumper trim black on mine.

Since we seem to have a commonality here...
Here are some pics from when my dad and I did my trim two summers ago.

Thanks for the reminder John, I need to do my fog light trim as well. If the sun holds out I might do it this week. Its amazing what a little cleaning and spray paint will do for these cars. As they say... its all in the details.
Yours looks good Digital. I see you actually primed yours and then painted it. Only time will tell if I should have done mine that way.

i had to do the same thing , i bought a defrosterless hatch and it was bad, i did it off the car though so i could do it right and get it perfect. We sanded a lot and then use SEM high build primer surfacer , and then sanded in between coats , and then used SEM 39143 trim black . The stuff cost like 15 bucks for both cans but it works great . The only thing better is the stock finish on my original hatch glass.
