A little sneak peek of the new interior
Well I dropped the Firebird off to be painted last week I found I quickly became bored without something to work on. I decided to start redoing the interior pieces. I have almost all the plastics painted and since they were originally carpeted I decided to dye that too. The panels used to be tan. Here are a few pics of one of the panels. Tell me what you think.

I roughed all the plastics up with 180 and then wiped them down really well with laquer thinner. I then painted the plastics with Duplicolor Texture Metallic paint and painted the carpet pieces with fabric and vinyl dye.

Here are a few of the other pannels. I don't believe in rear seat belts- so I just got rid of those unsightly holes.

Several people have shown if the work is done correctly, it will last. I agree, it's easy to do wrong and in that case it won't hold up, but if its properly prepared, they just saved themselves a pretty good amount of money by not buying all new interior panels and spending only $20 and having a nice, custom look.
Every time someone paints an interior, someone says something negative to say about it, and it's pretty much beating a dead horse. We all know that it works sometimes, and other times it doesn't. If it does, more power to them, they just made themselves a nice new interior.

Ive done the interior thing before i know all about how well it holds up. Hell last time was in my truck and i used 88 cent walmart paint and held up for 4 years before it ever started to fade. This time i upgraded to the $5 a can Krylon fusion. We will see.

If there was a clapping smiley, I'd use it here.

The paint runs almost $7 a can, and its worth every cent. I'm very happy with the durability of this stuff. I also plan on clear coating it all once its had plenty of time to harden.
Chrysler Platinum with some form of a bird on the hood..
There will be pics of that soon enough.

The new seat covers for my PMD seats came yesterday from Hawks. I'll take them in to be installed today.
I also started making some kick panels. They need quite a bit more work, but they'll be sanded smooth and painted to match the rest of the plastics.

Thats alot of work dude for kick panels. You should experiment with bending sheet metal. I bet you could get good at it and make some nicer ones with less work. Just an idea. Metal is fun!

Lookin good AC. Can you believe we'll both have painted cars this year?
Are they painting the aluminum gas door, or are you leaving it silver?

I took the seats to be recovered yesterday. The headliner, sail panels and sunvisors should be coming any day now.
Haha, I know! I'm pretty excited to actually have a painted car.
The gas door will keep its aluminum finish- I'd like to give it that 'brushed' aluminum look, but I might end up polishing it. How's your car coming along? Maybe we'll finish in a tie afterall.

Im sure looking forward to seeing your car nearing completion. I've been checking out your website every so often for any updates. Seeing your bird in one solid color will be pretty sweet.
Hope everything turns out awsome!

I've been buying parts like a madman and this week I actually titled/licensed the car in IL (the AR tags expired in 1995)
