is there any company in the world that makes a higher quality grade of carpet with more then a 800 thread count of ACC or 1,000 thread count of ACS for our cars?

is there any shop in the world that actually custom fits carpet of material choice to any car?

every shop that i have been to here in michigan orders pre-molded carpet and claims it to be their own from other major distributors.

 

you seriously look at teh thread counts, now that bro is a perfectionist right there

I have no clue to be honest, the upholstry place i use says to run acc since it is the highest quality out there, but i guess thats premolded carpets

 

lol... ACC is good carpet. i ran it before and for the price you can not beat it. the 1,000 thread count from ACS is also nice as well as molded but slightly more expensive. the higher the thread count the "tighter" the carpet looks. i'm trying to get something similar to the carpet in a bentley or jaguar which is around 1,500.

just has a different look to it more or less. want the carpet to match the feel with the rest of the car.

well they emailed me back said their carpet was twice as nice as ACC 800 thread count which if it was technically true would work. i asked for a sample or if i could purchase a sample and haven't heard anything back. i've sent 3 emails so far with no response so we'll see.

 

Plz keep us posted on any new info...I'm curious to see a sample or at least a good picture of a sample of their carpetting....

 

They never sent me the sample I requested either, which is why I have ACC carpet in my car instead.

 

ACC also makes the exact replacement carpet for our cars, It even has the correct black rubber backing. It's the cost that gets me, it's $441.00 for front and back and comes with all the holes pre-cut.

 

Guys, what you have heard or been told about Car Motorsports carpet is true; it is MUCH higher quality carpet than ACC, there is absolutely no comparison. ACC is "ok"; Redraif has it in her car, and its what most resto suppliers sell, but its FAR from perfect. Car Motorsports carpet is thicker and has more padding, more like a factory GTA carpet, and is overall much better quality. Not sure what the thread count is, but its more plush than any other replacement carpet I have ever seen. Redraif has one for her 82 TA (not yet installed). Its manufactured in Dalton GA (where the worlds best carpet is made), and from what I understand they dye the fibers prior to manufacture unlike some other suppliers, and the colors are less prone to fading. It is more expensive (not sure of the exact cost) than ACC, but for a nice car its money well spent.

The floor mats make my 2 year ACC carpet look bad in comparison. I could not believe the quality. Then when I got their carpet for the 82, I was blown away. It was a demo, so I got a great price! But I could so tell the difference in the quality compared to the ACC. CarMotor sports carpet is so far beyond everyone else. Its more expensive, but you get what you pay for! I'm highly tempted to get some for RAIF to replace my ACC with!

yeah i'm on my 4th email, which will be my last one. if they can't return sample requests they don't need my business bad enough i guess which is fine. i'm not going to buy it without sampling it first.

 

that's extremely high for ACC as even direct through them its at least $100 less then that. search around. ACC makes molded carpet for our cars that looks just like factory and is very close in thread count. i want much higher quality though and i can take or leave the rubber backing.

 

so i hear but they won't return my requests for a carpet sample or even give me a price quote? if you know someone that i can deal with direct to get my questions answered please let me know. i'm looking for at least a 1,400 thread count but 1,600+ would be ideal.

 

Yea if they arent interested in making a new customer i wouldnt be to interested in they're product, i had this issue with air ride technologies about 4 years ago when i first bought my firebird, no returned emails, no returned calls i would be put on hold and disconnected, liek they arent interested in me i'm not interested in them, luckily they have changed

The F-body Gathering in Atlanta last year. Kandied, I don't have the owner's card on me, but I'll post his # later today if I can. We have always dealt directly with Rich, and he has been great. Thats his black Turbo TA (Gm development car, its legit...he also has a convertible, and a couple other unique Turbo TAs).

 

It sucks that they arnt responding to emails, Ive done buisnes with them before & they replied to every email I sent them & their culaity is great. Dont give up on them, they might be having problems or to mush work.

As far as I know all those guys are pilots and are out of town alot! I will look up Richs number tonight. I need to see if they are going to STARS this year! He has a shirt I have been meaning to PU and my emblem that was used to design the bird for my mats! Also Rich said he knew someone in Germany, who might be able to help with communication so I might be able to get an OTP nose!

I'v been trying to contact them for the last two days with no response on the telephone and no response on email....

 

CMS is bad with email. I tried asking them a few questions and they simply replied back with their phone number. They're very couteous and prompt over the phone though.

It's well worth it for their carpet though. I bought a full set of black super plush. I'm very happy with it.

Why don't you just find some nice carpet that you can buy in bulk instead of premolded and then just have a upholstery shop make the carpet for your car. Its not that difficult really. Just find somebody who knows what they are doing.

 

unfortunately it is that difficult... i agree as i don't care about rubber backing and the rest. i just want good material and i can't find anyone with the knowledge to do the job. all the shops i've called in michigan pre-order from ACC or similar and then charge even more.

 

I finally got ahold of them and have placed an order. Time will tell if it was the right thing to do. Cost over $500 total with extra carpet for the doors and shipping...

 

wow. are you talking about CMS? i asked for samples, he said he would send one but i recieved the same type of sample i recieved from the others with 1,000 thread count. still nicer then our typical 800 thread count but i hope what you ordered is nicer as ACS and the rest with duplicate carpet only charge $300.

thanks, it's basically a look that i'm going for. if you get the thread count tight enough the carpet gives the illusion of a a smooth appearance almost like suede. that's what i'm going for to match my doors, headliner, seats and console. very hard to explain since i can't find many examples but it's nice and makes a difference in the overall look of the car.

 

i know what you mean, my buddies lexus has great carpet.

 

There aren't any custom upholstery shops around there that will actually just make the carpet for you? It seems like a hot rod shop or something would be able to do it for you.

 

you would think wouldn't you? i couldn't believe it myself... haven't tried everyone in the phone book; yet. however i've been to 5 major custom rod shops and they all told me they purchase pre molded and install it.

 

I think alot of that is them not wanting to waste there time on a car they consider not worth it. I'm amazed how many times my $ has been turned away with the excuse of that 80s car is not worth it! Go buy a new car they say...get a good paint job on it! better investment. Glad I never listened and kept pushing the envelope! I just wish I drove mine less so I could take it down and redo the thing right! Driving a show car everyday is such a pain!

Thats again why I started doing as much of this stuff myself as I could. Finally gettting around to the sub box. Had the "temp" box for way too long, never enough down time! Never even meant to have it while showing. Just built it to see if that old sub would even work, then never got around to rebuilding it. Well we will see if I can get the base done by this weekend! STARS show in Fl! Then once i get the new subs, I'm going to make a Fiberglass top for the base. Tried looking around at most of the "custom" f-body boxes at the local shows and most look so crappy. Just sloppy work by these shops! And the owners just rave about it! For me it is the little stuff that matters! So I fully understand wanting the right stuff in a show car! Even the little details count!

Though I have just aquired a 84 indy Fiero to help ease RAIF's daily driver burden. Just a tune up, clutch fork and slave cylinder away!

 

Hey Jeff... I talked to Rich this weekend at the show and told him about all of you wanting samples. He siad to call and he would get them out to you!. In your case he says you should got with his higher grade carpet. Says the thread count is 40% over that of anyone elses! Give him a call!

 

If you are up for a road trip, check out Custom Auto Interiors in CA. They will be able to do the custom work for you, but I'm sure it will cost a little coin. I have several upholstery books by Roy Mangus and Don Taylor, and they really know what they are doing. You might want to check them out for some ideas or howto's: Automotive Upholstery Handbook (Taylor) and Custom Auto Interiors (Taylor and Mangus).

 

thanks. i wish i had that option out this way, that's a little to costly of a road trip to trailer the car for that type of work. would be nice though indeed. i'll look into the books you describe.
