hatch motor problem

ok so i have 1 87 t/a and 1 7 gta. the motor in hte gta was not working, the lock was but the motor wasnt, it would only click to open the hatch. the motor in the t/a worked just fine. i switched the working one into the gta, i hooked everything up all the way its suposed to go, i close the hatch the motor pulls it down i push the button to open it and it clicks but doesnt open. now before i closed it i checked all the wires with a volt meter, both cars had the exact same on everywire. theres some corosion on the relay, so im thinking i possibly need a new relay but i dont wanna go out and spend 20-30$ on a relay if i dont have to. and kicker is i cant open hte hatch and the plastic trim piece is in the way so i cant even get at anything....anyone have any ideas as to what i can do? the only good thing outa this is that it wont leak anymore. thank you for reading it, i know its kinda long.

Try manually opening the hatch with the key. Did you mark the location of the old hatch pull-down to the body before installing the new one? The new one you installed may have been installed too low and the hatch hook is binding in the latch.

Just jump +12v to the blue wire that is connected to the rea with white stripe wire.

Park the car in the shade. Climb into the hatch and remove the hatch light. You'll need a 10mm wrench to uncsrew the hatch release solenoid. Once you have it off you'll see a square hole it covered. Inside the hole is a tab that the solenoid pushes. Move it to the left with a long screwdriver and the latch will release.

Yes. In your case, remove the interior hatch trim using a coin or large flat-blade screwdriver. Un-plug the blue wire from the red/white stripe wire and jumper +12v to it. It SHOULD power up right away. If not, then use a long flat-blade screwdriver and fiddle with the small black switch by the latch.

Did you remove the hatch light and solenoid as I previously described? Spray the area in the square hole with WD40 or equivalent and try again. It will release when that tab is moved to the left. You may need to have someone rock the hatch side to side as you push that tab.

I'm just trying to help you release the hatch without destroying anything. But if all that fails, you may have to destroy the hatch surround trim piece. It is no biggie, because they are easily replaced either from a Pick-a-Part yard or eBay.

Go ahead and remove the 4 hatch surround trim screws, use a screwdrive to pull up the bottom. There are two hidden tabs on the inside of the hatch trim at the bottom holding it against the body. You'll have to yank it up, then out to get it to lift. You won't be able to completely remove the hatch trim because there are some screws at the top ledge that you won't ba able to access. Choose your favorite method of cutting off the top of the hatch trim. A Dremel tool with abrasive blade will work well.

is the int panel still on? Or if u can get it off. Just take the bolts that hold it to the rear body panel off. Just make sure someone is holding the hatch so it does not fly up. That will take the presusse off. Than have the person holding the hatch turn the key. should fall off.if no one is there put something on the back of the hatch that will hold it down.

i took the 3 big main bolts holding the assembly to the car off. i can get the hatch up about 10 inches theres some ground wires holding it down. as i play around with it the hatch motor goes up and down, but when i push the hatch release button or turn the key the hook or whatever its called doesnt let go of the hatch. it clicks when u push the button and when i turn the key i can sorta see some thing moving inside. could the wire have come out that is attatched to the key hole and goes into the the releasing mechanism? im gonna look at it somemore and see what i can find. if anyone has any info that would be cool too.

I doubt it came loose. I suppose the cable could snap with age. It snaps onto the back side of the key lock cylinder with a large white plastic connector. I'm attaching a picture of the hatch release sloenoid. There is a black molded piece that is riveted to the inside of the solenoid cover. Check that the 10mm screw that attaches the solenoid to the latch is tight. Loosen that screw and remove that screw. Inside the square hole is a tab that the hatah release solenoid pulls to release the latch. Lube it with WD40 or silicone and push it CCW to see if the latch releases properly. Once you get the latch loop free lube the latch with WD40 or silicone and blow it out with compressed air. You can use the shaft of a screwdriver to test that the latch closes properly, then push the tab to make sure it releases. Make sure that the ground wire is attached from the 10mm screw to the ground location on the body just below the hatch pull-down unit.
