weight distribution...essentially, because the engine weighs so much, often times a car is nose heavy, having a closer 50/50 weight distribution between the front and rear wheels will enhance handling, and feel for the road.

How much do those kits cost? I want to put it in the rear on the driverside under the cargo box compartment. Need room for giant K& N that the hood is crushing.

You are better off mounting it to the rightside of the car, that puts the weight over the right rear tire, for better traction.

I know the optimum location is rightside but I am not one to temp fate by not carrying a spare tire. I dont have that inflatable compact spare crap either I got a temp spare off another GM car.

Mine is going on the highspot, on the passenger side. Outside of the spare tire well. The top of the battery box will be just under the hatch lid. Not hid, but it takes up little useless space.

does anyone think it would be unwise to put it in the bottom middle of the trunk area, on the right side under a subwoofer box? Or should I be concerned about ventination at all?

Another idea is to use two of the 6v Optimas, and wire them in a
series to get 12v. They would be very flat, and would fit in the
spare tire area easily.......

I guess I'll be the first to post some pics. I didn't get a kit, in fact I didn't know they made one. just got a piece of wood and cut it to fit in the spare tire compartement. Got 2 long bolts and put throught the wood and made a bracket to hold the battery down. I ran the cable over the wheel well up to the front of the car and the negative I just put through a hole in the bottom of the tire compartement and fastened it to the frame. I also have my starter solenoid back there also. My battery is an Optima by the way.

NHRA does not consider a sealed battery as safe. Therefore, it still must bew contained in a sealed, vented box, unless it is seperated from the driver by a firewall.

1982TA,
Nice install, but again, not track legal. Battery must be mounted on plate steel.
Wood is not legal for track use.

wish I had a working camera, I run a BMR 4th gen rear mount tray on the left side of my rear well, drill a few holes and it bolts right in. Has a red top optima sitting in it with a nylon tow strap holding it down.
