Don't laugh ... well not too much anyway
So I've been exercising the use of that search button to avoid basic/repetative questions that make you want to stab yourself in the eye... but I still have some lingering questions...
Can someone provide me with definitions of the follow:
Etch primer
2-pack
Smoothrite
Epoxy primer
rust encapsulator
Basically, I was searching if POR15 could be used as underocating for paint on surface areas, which appears to be a big no no. I have some areas were surface rust is MINOR, just a dusting, and others that need some more attention (bubbling under paint). Basically I came up with DA'ing the area with 150 grit to get the rust down and out... sandblasting if needed, body filling small pits, replace metal were metal should be..... but get lost after that.
GOAL: Smooth glassy finish when all is said and done WITHOUT rust reappearing for 5+ years. Should "Epoxy primer" be applied as a primary undercoating over bare/bodyfilling metal, then sanded down and reapplied and wetsanded? Basically, were do I go after the bodywork basics are done?

I have used POR-15 extensively. It has been used on several projects with rust from minor to more severe. I love this stuff. Follow the instructions and after one or two uses, you will get the hang of it. They carry several products for different applications. I have never had a treated are rust again. No... I do not work for them.

Smoothrite I think that might be a fish eye elimator.. I use smoothy. When i think I might have probs.. But if u make sure the car is cleaned good should not need it
Epoxy primer is primmer. spray it on block it
rust encapsulator . something to convert rust.. Never used por 15 but i have heard the stuff is the shi.
But like jeff said look for his post he went over every thing

Hey guys, thanks for the time you took replying, I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to look at Jeff's post!
Few more questions that arose out of the answers - what is fish eye? I know what it is in terms of stickin it in a womans rump when she's not expecting (hence forth her turning her head to the side, with one eye real big just staring at you, aka "The fish eye") - but I don't know, call me crazy I thought you might be refering to a term about paint, so I have to ask.
Also... does "spray it on block it" mean spray it on and sand it? I'll get this one for you too...

thats good about the fish eye thing never heard that one before lol.
fish eyes are when the paint pools up and sinks in the middle.. or people call them bulls eyes to.. That about the best way i can say.
yes blocking means get a block with sand paper on it and block it flat

I think someone should take my posts and make a sticky titled "Idiots look here."
Anyway... I read all the resurection posts.. wow, great job Jeff!
Now, something I noticed, did he prime the car, then play filler? I thought the filler went onto bare metal?? And then do you seal with an epoxy primer, or is that not what epoxy primer is meant for, and if not - what do you seal with before and after paint?

Been awhile since i read his post. I would not put filler over primmer.. He might have but glaze filler over primmer thats ok. I try to do all me metal/filler work before I prime. But if u miss some little dents than i will use a glaze to fill any little stuff I find. Than prim again. I allways use a sealer. Some people don't .. Theres a few differnt way to come out with the same thing. U should go to a bood store and get a book on body and paint.. It will help u out alot.
