is this a common belt problem?
My belt hadn't retracted for a while so I starterd taking my roof apart and took the mechanism out. noticed the bolt in the middle of the retracting-wheel had come off. With a hammer and some tough love I got it crammed to it's oroginal position.
And wouldn't you know as soon as I had it fixed - atleast for a while - on the same day the passengerside belt brakes the same way!!!
So this must be a common problem right??
If I were to replace the belt retractors what should I get?

get rid of the whole mess, i installed 4th gen seat belts what a difference, you can actually feel them lock and retract, i'd never use 3rd gen seatbelts again, even if they were giving to me.

I'm pretty sure it's more to it than that. I think if your orange release buttons are faded, you don't have the fixed ones. Something about them not staying locked or not coming undone..
It's a sticky at the top of one of the forums..

That recall is just for the buckles, not the retraction mechanism. The button wasn't uv protected and gets brittle and breaks. They only replace the button end (stationary side)of the belt. Being out of country it would be hard (impossible)to have done anyway.
Get a 4th gen set, that's what I'm doing.

Incidentally the buckles on my car are beige coloured to match the interior and have a blue release button on the side with GM in silver written on it.
