first time seeing this, rare??

did are cars ever come with something that goes ontop of the dashpad, im guessing its to protecting the dash? its held on by velcro and the vent spots are all cut out? i got one thats 100% perfect from the yard today and the thing look factory to me because its done so well but i never seen this on a thirdgen before. was this like an extra option or something or did someone make this??

I love my dash cover. Keeps the dash from carcking all over the place. Also it gives the dash a little better look than without one.
