Firebird cup holders INSTALLED!

I know alot of people have been looking for pics of them installed in a camaro, so i finally got down this weekend and installed them. I may even write a tech article on it...maybe.

this is the only shot that came out, i'll take some more in the morning of both.

(i already hit it getting out in a tight spot )

I've had them in my RS for years now. Why would you need a to write a tech article? The square holes to mount them are already in your doors. Just insert a license plate plastic mount in the hole, mark the location onto the back side of the door panel by shoving a cut-off pencil in the hole of the insert and pressing the panel up to it. Then drill or poke a hole with a punch or awl. Re-install door panel and screw cup-holders in place.

Lon,

Are the holes there in earlier cars? I don't recall seeing them in my 85.

I suppose you are right, Lon, it was a pretty straight forward install. The only thing i had a problem with was getting the upper trim off.

No. My 90 has them. I haven't had the door trim off my 88 yet to see. I can't recall what year they were available on Firebird, but whatever year it was Camaros had the same mounting inside the door. If yours doesn't have the square mounting holes it actually simplifies the installation. You can just hold the map pocket/cup holder up to the door and drill, and then screw it in place with sheet metal screws.

Regarding the removal of the upper door trim piece, it was always a PITA for me too. That is until I read a post on here. It removes easily by sliding the inner door panel to the rear. Pop the panel fasteners first with a putty knife or screwdriver, and then lift the panel slightly away from the door as you push the entire panel to the rear. Voila, it comes off without a hassle.

Yep, there will be a 90 RS Camaro convertible there with Firebird map pocket/cup holders. I'll be interested to see that the Malibu SS is like to drive.

They were factory on 90-92 Firebird's. I got tired of kicking mine so when I redid my door panels, I just left em off. besides the door looked too cluttered with them on

A real american muscle car does not have cup holders. 'Nuff said.
On the other note, I have my girlfriend hold them.
If you are really in the pinch, just open up your storage box in the center console and put it in there. I am sure you have enough crap in there to prop it up.

they are realitivly strong, but they quickly get scuffed up. I am considering covering them in vinyl or something, something soft, because the scuff looks REALLY bad .
