Changing a 85 Camaro to a 87

I just wanted to make sure of something, The body of any 85 camaro would be the same as a 87 Z28 right??
I found a 85 Camaro.. not a Z28, that's in excellent shape.. and I wanted to take everything off my 87 Z28 and but it on that body.. would it look like my old car?? Could I take the serial # and everything and tell people that it's a 87 Z28 and they wouldn't notice?
I have the whole front end, I'll have to take the hatch outlets of my Camaro and put it on this one, add the power windows, add the auto hatch, change it manuel, add the body kit..

Basically my question is, is the body the same, Thx

well first of swapping VIN numbers is illegal so I wouldnt do that. what you can do though is change the body parts back and forth

Yeah I know that it's illegal, it was just an exemple..
I just wanted to know if nobody would notice the change.

I think there may be a difference in the brake lights, but other than that they're pretty much exactly the same. Go for it. But quick question: what's wrong with the '87?

Thx man, Nice car btw.
I still have my brakelights.. I'm sure that I can make them fit.
Well.. I turned left on a green without seeing this Cavalier coming, and she ran me passenger side, my car did a 360.. The frame is pretty twisted (the T-top didn't help) It would be just cheaper and more trustable to just by a new frame I imagine.

yea i'm pretty sure that the only main difference is the tail lights, and maybe the ground effects....i'm thinking that the front bumper is different?

Shell (chassis), hood, bumper (nose), gfx, fenders, doors, glass, etc... all the same.
Aside from trivial cosmetics... 85-90 are the same looking car outside. 91-2.. gfx & a few more minor cosmetics changed... everything else is recycled.
Could just be my opinion as well though..

If it's an '85 non-Z28, it would have the sport coupe/berlinetta style bumpers and no ground effects. Everything can bolt on from the Z28 but of course you'll need to drill holes for the GFX.

Would also want to take your springs and sway bars since the base cars are set up much softer. Shocks and struts too or just buy new ones.

I think they'll fit exactly the same, I just meant they may look different. Also the third brake light may vary in location. But few people will ever notice these things.

85 didnt have a third brake light.. so if the 85 SC has a spoiler, he could stick with the no third light look.. or if he REALLY wants one, he could go through all the wiring..

not worth it, IMO, for a third brake light that wouldnt even be legally required on an 85..

And dont do the VIN swap dude...

yah, everything should bolt up, besides the fenders, which will require drilled holes

Also, did you mean new frame as in new car? or were u thinking of getting a new frame for the 87? cause that isnt possible.. (see UNIBODY)

hope that helps

make sure u part out the 87 and get as much extra cash as u can.. and keep the flow of used parts up!

Thx a lot for all the feedback
I bought the car today for 1500$ (everything is original except for the mags, never winter driven, so it's in good shape.. I only need the body.. and I'll sell the rest like Rabbitt said) both cars are 1 hour away from where I live, so I can't start today to do the transformation, + it's been raining for like 3 days..

Neither car has a third brake light..
I will try to take pics of everything that will be done.
