Replacement felt for L-brackets for windows....

i wish i had a pic to show, but since i dont i will try to describe them....they are the brackets that mount to the top of your door (under the door panel) and they rub up against your windows to keep them moving on the right track

My problem is that mine have worn away all of the felt and are now rubbing lines into my tint

anyone know where i can get felt that will work for this type of job??

I tried getting an extra set, but they were in bad shape also....

Thanks!

Find a glass shop that specializes in replacement glass for old cars; they'll have all types of felt. I use http://www.vintageglass.com

Those are still available from GM and other distributors such as Classic Industries.

i think the fiero felts are the same size and if they are you can try a website www.fierostore.com for new ones that are real cheap.

Wow. I bought mine from classic industries and paid 8.95 each for them. I just checked my catalog and 82-87 model price is 48.95 each. Model years 88-92 are 8.95 each. Glad I've got a 92.

My old ones may not be too bad shape. I'll look and see if they are still good. I'll let you have them cheap if your interested.

i wonder what the difference is in the two types which causes such a dramatic price difference???

88-92 were improved to better hold the window. If you look at the picture on this thread there is a large rectangle hole behind the felt. There were two hooks bolted to the window that went into the hole when the window was up. This gave the window a much more solid feel and less likely to rattle.
The black plastic trim piece on top of the door panel was also notched out for clearance for the hooks.

The later style felts should work fine on early cars. You may have to take a dremel or file to the black plastic trim piece to make clearance for the ears on the sides which aren't on the earlier style.

GM typically raises replacement part prices when they are getting low on stock and they are no longer producing the part or there isn't much demand anymore.
