Radio Antenna Relocation Ideas.....

Yes. I have searched previous posts before we have to ask this obvious question.

What I want to know if anyone here has relocated their radio antennas to the back of their cars to places such as their rear quarter panels (up beside the hatch)......or to anywhere else?

I have read all the posts about "shaving" antennas and invisible antennas. Not what i want per se.

Pictures of mods and relocations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

PS: the car in question is an '83 T/A.

Ever since I got my vert I thought it'd look good with the power antenna moved to be flushmounted in one of the spoiler caps on the rear. I don't think it'd look good on a hard top. I've seen a few 'maros with those 15" flexible rubber antennas hanging off the back end and they look......out of place...

Hey Ian.........

..........What's happening up there in the great PacNorWest? Specifically Gig Harbor?

I do not want to do it to the Convertible....just to this '83 T/A. I know some visionary somewhere has already accomplished this mod to his/her 3rd gen F-body.....and i want to know about it!

Steve

Not a lot, dodging days of snow so I can still put my top down.

I'd be curious to see what it'd look like but I still don't know if I'd like it. Hopefully someone posts up a picture or some firsthand knowhow.

I didn't relocate or shave, but I did modify. Took it to 8".

Yes. Pictures please. I do not believe I have heard of a power antenna from the windshield. Can you explain that a little?

i think it would look even better with a shaved antenna on the fender, and in place put one of those short rubber looking antennas that are like 6" tall, put it on the hatch glass, up by the middle brake light...

How about a VW GTI antenna mounted at the back of the roof by the center of the hatch?

That might look great on the quarter panel angled to match the rake of the windshield. Similar to the 1960's Impalas.

Deadbird shaved his off and hid the factory antenna under the dashpad. Its like he don't even have an antenna. Thats how I'm doing all my cars now.

Isn't there a power antenna available? If not, couldn't any power antenna be used (as long as it fits in the space)?

Kind of off topic, but what's an L388?

Most GM rpo's have an L designation for the engine. My engine is a 388 c.i.. Therefore a L388, the RPO my car told me it really wanted.

Anything to make my car happy!

the local car audio store....actually both stores here have them...i also found them at crutchfield

Heres one like i have
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-cSsMNs9...p?i=12044UA200

Here is another version
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vRM3Cdt...sp?i=12044UA20

the only thing about it so far i dont like is the wires werent long enough for the distance i ran them.....however, that is easily solved by extending them

i really like the look of the second one which is designed to be hidden. If the standard antenna under the dash doesnt work, that's the next option for me.

im not sure if your car is a hard top or T top

but you can take down your head liner.... and run wire around your roof... making your roof an antenna

my freind did it to his ford taurus's cb antenna

i have no idea on what kinda of wire and what not but its just an idea you can look into

i have thought of shaving my antenna on my t/a when we do my body work and thought of putting the antenna under the front part of the t-top liner right at top of windshield. havent done measurements and what not but i think itl work or either run it down the center pice of the liner between the tops.

Thank you!

Thanks for the ideas. There are some things to think about. Although I am still leaning towards my original idea......even more so since apparently no one on this board has done it.

Well when the snow is gone and the T/A reappears from the snow drift then I will do some mock ups and see what I can come up with.

what about puting the stock antenna or stock one cut down behind one of the A-pilars? Would that work?

Woah... that wasn't me (granted my camaro lost it's mast).
I can't take credit for a mod I haven't done. Though, I appreciate you thinking it was me who did.
There are pleanty of members who have done this exact thing though.

CheezX has a rear ¼ mounted antenna on his 'bird.
