I was at the JY today looking for the RS ground effects ( no luck here) and I stumbled by a firebird that looked pretty weird. First of all it had automatic locks and windows but it looked like it was 82-84 or so. Than the gauges were totally different than anything I've seen before. The speedo was there, next to it same size fuel gauge, and next to them were three rectangles. They were in three rows diagonally and were digital and were flat with the vent (unlike our gauges that have the vent come out). Anyways, it had a firebird picture on one of the corners and fasten seatbelt crap and temp, oil... It was pretty unique. I never seen such a thing before. can someone shed some more light on it. And should I go back there and pick it up!?! Not sure.
The speedo was mechanical!

You should post pics. I love seeing what people find in junkyards. Im thinkin the same as camaro430sut though.
I found a 1970 Camaro z28 rust free with a wide body kit and a ram air type hood. Body was scary strait and it was in alittle open area with a bunch of mini vans. It was a cool little find.

I am gonna go there tommorow and pick it up. It shouldn't be much. It would fit in my firebird cuz it has exactly the same connections.
Ya, its not the digidash since I have seen them and been looking for one for a while now!
I'll pick it up and post some pics.
Laters.

Nothing special... Just the base guage cluster for '82-'84 Firebirds. S/E and T/A have the optional guages standard.

That is the standard instrument panel used in base model Firebirds from 1982 to I think 1986 or 1987. Complete gages were optional on the Base and standard on the S/E and Trans Am on early 3rd-gen Firebirds.
They might be getting rare because a lot of the base model cars are worn out/wrecked by now but I wouldn't put it as a desirable part. Most people want full gages over idiot lights. I've seen the telltale gage clusters on eBay and nobody bids on them.
Here is a pic of the diagram out of the Owners Manual.

I don't have a picture of it handy, but that is the exact dash set up I have in my firebird. Speedometer/BIG fuel guage/dummy lights. pretty boring if you ask me.

Man, funny thing...
I went to another junkyard for some spare coil connectors and bam. There were three firebirds with the same dash. I sat there laughing, that once I thought this was something special... Damn.. I almost took one home to see if I can make it work with my setup.
Gosh, what and idiot I am
