Another One Bites the Dust :(

My baby was murdered the other day

So I got caught out in the snow the other day... and my car ran off the road into a tree... on my birthday... fun times were had by all. Luckily I know how much our cars suck in the snow and was only doing about 10 miles an hour at the time. Front bumber was pretty bashed, but all the other body panels looked to be ok, and the radiator was still holding fluids.

And then the unthinkable happened. My girlfriend and I got out of the car to talk to the people whose yard we ran into and their neighbors and let them know we were ok and just waiting for a tow to get us out of the yard.

Next thing I know a car is flying through the intersection at our car. Stupid 16 yr old girl was doing about 45 in an friggin 2wd suv in the snow in a 25 mph zone We managed to get out of the way but my car was not so lucky.

Needless to say, the car was totaled . Anyone have any good suggestions for a new/used car?

Unbelievable as it sounds the passenger cabin was 100% intact. I miss my car already.

RIP baby. 2/3/92 - 12/31/05

(and for those wondering it was 4 p.m. no alcohol was involved)

that seriously brought a tear to my eye.

Was your car repainted? If so, was it repainted the original color? That color was only availible on heritages and would have came with gold stripes. I've seen a picture of a polo/gold heritage converitble and it look absolutely stunning.

*shakes head*

Too bad man, looked to be a nice car. The other girls insurance best pay for that. If that was me, I'd be too pissed to even talk to her...

Sorry to see another 'vert die man, but I guess I have to be the first to ask what all the other vert owners are thinking: Are you gonna be able to pull parts from it before the insurance company totals it?

Maybe there is a more tactful way to ask that question: Is your car an organ donor, because my vert is waiting on a few transplant lists.

Thanks for all the kind words guys... To answer a couple of questions, her insurance company did pay out without any problems. They really had no choice since the police report stated that the driver lost control of the car. That color was a factory original color. It looked just the same as when we picked the car up 14 years ago. I think that the forest green color was one of the nicest colors i've ever seen for a car. It's tough to get green right on a car, and GM got it perfect.

I looked into pulling "vert parts" off of the car, but when i tell you that every last part of the car was damaged, i'm not kidding. The decklid, taneau, top, decklid struts, all destroyed. It was hard enough knowing I would never drive it again. To have it sit in my yard and see it every day while i figured what I could salvage (not much) was just too tough for me to deal with so i just let the towing company junk it.

I don't want to be insensitive and cruel, but what the heck were you doing driving your baby around in this kind of weather, at this time of year? My 1992 Formula (original owner, special ordered for me) doesn't come out of the garage if I think it is going to rain. I too, had a small mishap with my baby about two years ago. Some morons in a ***** were playing games with someone else in a *****. They caused people in front of me to slam on their brakes. I was able to stop, but the Honda Accord behind me couldn't. He hit me and just barely pushed me into the car in front of me. We barely touched, but the damage was done. The front nosepiece no longer has an even gap between it and the hood. The rear was much worse. Luckily, though, it is all just plastics parts that are damaged. No sheetmetal, and most importantly, no structural damage. The sad thing is that if people keep driving this way, it may never come out of the garage again. (After it is repaired) I am almost afraid to drive it around here, there are so many morons. I know that I won't ever completely stop driving it, but I am very picky about where and when I drive it.

Sorry about your baby, though. I am sure you feel like I did when I got hit. (But I got feeling better when I realized that it was all cosmetic damage and not structural)

Nytmayr,
At this point in time this is the only car I own. My father was actually the one who purchased the car in 92, and i bought it off him when he got a new car in 98. I just finished school and found an engineering job, and was actually out that day shopping for another car, so i could strip my baby, fix it up, and only drive it when it was nice. Those plans of course are long gone now.

Seriously though. I wanna hear from you guys. If you were in the market for an everyday car, less than 6 years old, what would you get (assuming you still had a 3rd gen on the side?)
