this may sound like a dumb question but do you need to pull the steering wheel to change the switch lever? If I turn to the left it pops back down, but if you turn to the right I have to push it up, springs worn out?

Yes, you will need to remove the steering wheel.

There is a screw that holds it on to the main turn spindle inside, usually this screw backs out. If you can, check it first.

I replaced mine from Advance Auto, in the HELP! section - I believe it was less than $23, with cruise control.

How did you manage that? Looks good, kinda got that "Mad Max" thing going on. I'd like to see it during the process of swapping it out. Mine is broken too.

The stalk itself just pulls straight out but you have to make sure the wipers are in the off position. And if you have cruise make sure you tie some fiching line or piano wire to the plug under the dash before you pull it out.It will give you something to pull the new lead down the column(spray it down with some silicone or even ArmorAll will work to help it move down the inside of the column). When you get it out you'll notice a tab/tang on the end of the stalk.Look in the cavity it goes in and you'll see how to line it up.It's a snap fit.
