82 trans am grille alternatives?

I have been looking for a while, but I never saw any alternatives to factory replacement for the grilles that are on the 82-84 birds.

Replacements are about $100, but I was wondering about alternatives. Smoked plexi, or maybe mesh. I want something updated, but not outrageous.

Has anyone done something diffrent? I figure that I will go with factory replacements, but I would like to get opinions on either a black mesh, or tinted plexi.

Maybe a shark tooth style like this

from the old dusters.

If I could find a big honeycomb mesh that could cover it that would work.

Let me see some pics if you have done something, or shoot some ideas at me...

Thanks

Watch around- I see them on ebay and the classifieds here all the time. I bought new ones from GM for about $70 a piece, but that was a few years ago. You could try to find a set of the Trans Am style ones for a more aerodynamic appeal.

These are the trans am ones for me. 1982 anyway.

Do you mean the solid ones that have trans am pressed into them?

I kinda forgot about them until you mentioned it.

I should look into that. Thanks.

I put a pair of the solid T/A inserts in mine, and filled in the Trans Am lettering.

I wanted to ask a question when I saw this topic. I've seen two types of these some are flexible plastic while others are more like fiberglass plastic and not flexible at all. Also where did you guys find these 100.00 reproductions I want to buy a set of them.

The Trans Am grilles are like the ones pictured by MNformula350. The louvered Firebird grille is the one 82knightrider posted a picture of.

Jproz1167- have your GM dealer do a nationwide search for them or order a set from Hawks or another thirdgen parts store.

In 1982 the louvered grille was a Trans Am piece. The solid one wasn't offered until 84. I was just saying that the louvered grille was factory Trans Am for the 1982, which is why my T/A had them.

Thanks
