the rear quart pannels fixable? PICTURE

is this rust here fixable? it seems that the paint bubled and rust came through, some places i can actually pull of large chunks off

the bottom of the pannel has alot of rust and then all the way around the wheel well as you can see in the picture. lucky i found a spray paint that is a perfect match for the factory paint and has made the car look better for the year i have driven it now.

what are my options with it? cut off a whole pannel from another Firebird? patch it? just leave it? get rid of the car all togther?

i do have a 110 volt lincoln welder but havent added on the gas yet, i have used it a little bit with not much luck so welding is not really a option right now.

From the picture it appears that rust is inside the door jam as well. I would recomend welding in a new quarter. just the face can be had for under 100 from year one, the OER panel runs closer to 400 but will turn the corner at the door jam and get rid of the rust that you probably have in the bottom right corner when you open the door

It all depeands on how much u like the car or how long u going to keep it.. I would say get some rust stoper (sem) makes a goos one. And fix that 1/4 . The reason for me saying to fix it is. It is going to be hard to weld on a new 1/4 cuz all your inner metal is going to be rusted to.. U can not weld to rust.. So u will have to replace alot more parts..
That would be the right way.. But u can pick up a hole not rusted out 3rd gen for pretty cheap.

Personally I'd save your money and keep on eye out for a better body.

The rust does not go into the door jam it stops on the corner. i checked under the carpet and there is absolutly no rust at all, rocker pannels are good as well and same with the underbody. i was told by a mechanic that the rear shock mounts rust out alot on these cars and mine have no rust there as well. seems only the outer body is going to crap(i think the car was in a accident in 88-89 and repainted maybe it was done wrong and moisture was traped between the paint?) i have already goten new hood, front quarter pannels, and passenger door, i would just need to get the rear quarts and drivers door.

it is just a daily driver and will never be for show, mostly just for winter driving. ethier going to keep it and fix the body and paint it myself to get it half decent looking and pull the motor and replace all the gaskets and some other stuff or sell it and move on to a newer daily Driver.

Very hard decision, have had it for a year and have gotten attached to it. if i get another car it wont be a firebird or camaro as its so hard to find one for half decent price that hasnt been run the **** out of its whole life. i was lucky with this one, doesnt look good with its rust but has been mechanically great. 1 owner lady used it for highway driving to work. it now has 135,000 miles on it.
