Need bolts, lots of bolts

so i got to thinking.. all the years of tearing cars down bolts can often get misplaced.

anyone have a suggestion of where to go to find bolt kits for our cars. for example i've seen companies that sell every bolt possible for a 69 camaro labeled and ready to go.

anyone?

I went to a local fastener specialty shop with one of each type of bolt/body fastener on the car and the number of each that I needed. What they didn't have in stock, they were able to order and $190.00 later (much, much cheaper than I expected), I came home with this...I likely can't help you out soon enough because I won't be home for at least a month, but somewhere I've got a list of every size of nut/bolt/fastener, the number required and the application. I've spent many, many hours or sorting, labelling and examining manufacturing drawings to compile that list. The supplier I ended up going to for my 'hardware kit' is called Facca Fasteners and is located in London, Ontario, Canada.

I dont have a supplier yet for exactly what you are asking. I too have been making a list and replacing everything I can with stainless fasteners. The only problem I foresee is that part way through years the body uses metric fasteners and the engine stays SAE. If RESTO has been able to give you his list i would also like it too, if he doesnt mind, or if not I can provide you with what I have so far

*edit* I have also noticed descrepancies with the parts book and the actual fastener on the car

The best way I've found to get bolts is to part out a car. The last time I parted a thirdgen, I threw every bolt and clip that I removed into a coffee can, and that coffee can is my God now. Every time I need a GM fastener, I've got one in there.

I know you want new, but other than buying them a piece at a time from the dealer, I doubt you'll get exactly what you want. You might get close, but not identical. Get as much used stuff as you can, toss it into a tumbler, and when it comes out, re plate/paint/coat the pieces as necessary.

I am getting ready to put my car back togeather and I organised all my bolts back when I was taking the car appart. I put all the bolts for each part in seperate bags. But over the last 3 years, stuff has been moved around and spilled. So I am gonna start counting. Needless to say I am sure some stuff is missing. Good thing I found this thread. I will get as much used stuff as possible, but who is gonna be selling 2 fender bolts and 3 window trim screws??? I feel like I might be better off using the the fastnerswarehouse deal... Not sure, just getting my feet wet with this issue.

I guess Junkyards are allways good idea.

I have several bags and bags of nuts/bolts/screws/fastners. At the junkyard i throw them in my pouch everytime i can and it builds up pretty quickly. I take all mounting hardware i need + anything extra. Only thing i wish i could find easier would be all those plastic fastners they used to hold interior panels on. They take there toll with age and when you try to remove them they just crumble...its annoying.

I have one whole drawer of my toolbox just for hardware...its pretty messy and over-full in there i should organize it.

Sounds like you have quite the stockpile of random screws and stuff. You should organise them and sell a few. I might need some in the neer future. There are not really any good junkyards neer me.

I can trade you some plastic fasteners. I bought a whole bunch way back from GM. I needed 2 and they came in bags of 15 or so. I am allways up for a trade

i have buckets and fridge drawers full of bolts and hardware and stuff not just from all the third gen F bodies ive stripped down, but also from billions of trucks and other cars and so on over the years,

i did do a decent job of keeping the TG F-body stuff by itself though,
for the most part anyways,,
so that i can get my 82 back together without toooo much hunting around, hmm..

in which is happening pretty soon now, finally, after all these years,

good luck
