Inexpensive Paint

Hi guys, Im looking into painting my car for the first time ever. I really dont want to spend a lot on paint for my first time. I stumbled across this website; Auto Body Supply, Inc . and they seem to have some low prices on their basecoat/clear coat systems. They have a 1gal base and 1gal clear system (which should be enough) for about $233. I was wondering if their paint was any good and if anyone knows of a place that sells auto paint cheaper then that. Thanks in advance guys.

For the amount of work that it takes to do a paint job, and the amount of work it takes to fix a bad paint job, I'd say it's worth doing right the first time.

I wouldn't waste my time with any paint that's not a urethane paint. The durability, shine, and ease to spray really makes it worth the cost.

If you're putting some god-knows-what enamel on the car, you really won't know how well it sprays and how durable it is until it's already too late to do anything about it.

Jim,
I was under the impression that their paint was urathane and not enamel. At least thats what I was reading in the description of their paint.

I'd call some local body shop places. Buying off the internet isn't always the cheapest, especially after adding freight.

Plus you can get reccomendations on what works best.

The place I used near me was great about answering any questions and helping me understand what I needed to do a good job.

I just spent about the same as that at the local NAPA. 167.00 for a gallon of red base and 60.00 for the clear. Add another 30-40 for hardener & reducer and your good to go. The Martin Senour paint they sell is pretty good stuff.

Just my two cents, Find a decent Macco, they use Sherman Williams brand paint. Not top shelf but decent none the less. I had Macco paint my car 3 years ago and they did an awesome job but you have to remember that prep work is the key. Macco shops are individually owned so not all are the same just shop around and ask to see some of thier work.

Check out my paint job

I think I paid less than that for my PPG paint at a local paint shop. That was for the clear, 2 different bases, reducer and everything else we needed.

they still make single stage urathane paints that are just as good... dupont makes a brand called nason which is really cheap... all you might need to paint the whole car is 2 quarts because the paint miked with reducer will make 2 more quarts....

Thanks guys for the input. Ive thought about Maaco, but Im opening my own custom shop and I want to learn to do it now on my own cars before I do it on a customers. Ill check out Napa. Advance Auto Parts also sells Duplicolor brand base, clear, hardener, and reducer also for real cheap, but they only have a few select colors. Do all Napas do the paint stuff or just the bigger ones (not the independently owned ones)?

All Napas should do it. The one in town here is very small, but they have full mixing capabilities. That's where my father's body shop gets their paint.
