Camaro Front End

Does anybody know anything special about the front end facia on an 87 camaro? Mine has three "slots" going between the headlights below the emblem. It's hard to explain w/o a pic and i don't have any sorry. Every other camaro I've seen doesn't have the three "slot" things. I know it wasn't just my car that had them because I hit a deer and messed up my front end and found another one with them in a junk yard. That was off an 87 too.
If anybody has any idea let me know.
thanks

Mine came with one too, but I know it's not the original. At least I don't think so. Here's a picture anyhow

i wonder why they didn't use that front end style on the irocs or something. i think it looks better than it just being flat

I'm pretty sure that camaros had that front end until 1984. After that they went flat. I don't agree with the slots looking better though. I mean they don't look bad, I'm just partial to the solid nose. I have an 87.

The Berly's and the SC (Sport coupes) had these bumbers, I dont believe they were ever designed to have Ground fx's on them hence the reason why they are not found on the z28's rs's or irocs. even in 82-84 the z's didn't have that bumper.

That bumper was used on:

82-87 Sport Coupes, Berlinettas, and LT's.

according to the door panel it was in 5/88.

Either way though, I took it off and replaced it with an IROC front.

are you the original owner? if not the Previous owner could have gone through the trouble and took off the ground fx's and put on the "base" bumper

Nah, definately not the first owner. I'm actually the 4th owner I think, and considering the condition of the car that is astonishing. The body is straight and there are only a couple of dents, absolutely no rust. Though that's what I expected since it's been in Southern Cailfornia its whole life. I don't know whether the previous owner did that as I bought it from a towing company.

it probably was done down the road. but heres a good way to find out, look under your rear bumper for your VIN sticker, if its missing its been replaced(the bumper) or repainted.

VIN sticker is still there on the rear bumper. There wouldn't be one on the front, right?

they're still there too.

Kinda weird, me being the 4th owner and the car has never been repainted, at least from what I could tell. No rust and no accidents. Though the passenger side front fender was either painted or a completely new one as it's a light silver(that was repainted, when I pulled off the side molding it was black underneath)
