no, i do.. but the thirdgen.org code, amendment #53 states that if you have louvers, your a *******, and you will be persecuted and sent to prison for a minimum of 5 years with fines of upto $50,000

and you better get your clear sidemarkers in, anyone left with amber ones is going to be in some serious trouble soon

I like the ones that came stock with the cars. The aftermarket ones never look right. I'm putting louvers from an 82 MSE on my 84 TA here shortly.

Revived a 4 year old thread. I take it they are illegal where you are at?

Re: Louvers

No problem, was trying to be funny. Sorry if I upset you. Just curious, what is ammendment 53? Figured it was about window tint, blocking view of passenger compartment or such. They allow tint in this state but they have the restriction on it of percent or whatever. I like the looks of window tint but it seems to attract blue lights.

Re: Louvers

Me upset? Never! And I'm new to this site so I have no idea about the code or its amendments. I live by my own code and that doesn't include worrying about who puts what on their cars, trucks or bikes. If you like it do it, thats what makes this a way of life and not just a hobby. if you asked me when I was a kid there wasn't anything cooler that air shocks and glasspack mufflers and cassette players for the car! See how far its come.

And I see by your profile "white gold 88" that we are the same age, so you know what I'm talking about.

Re: Louvers

Just curious, is this a legit issue with some laws? Just curious cause I've searched down two sets of complete louvers, one for my 92 RS and one for my friends '88 Z20 Bird, and we don't need more attention than necessary.

I have no idea if they are legal or not. Never had a problem in NJ.

Re: Louvers

Yep, I know exactly where you're comming from. I'm new here too. Got in penalty box for BS on other thread. Just trying to keep young grasshopper from making mistakes I've seen and done. I'm not too old to remember when I was right always. Anyhow good to have someone here to relate to.

Back to topic, I like the louvers but I don't think I want them on mine. Wife doesn't like them but it is MY car. She won't even drive it! Haven't heard of a specific time someone got ticketed for them but who knows. With the wording on some laws, they kind of leave a grey area. They would help hide my roll bars.

If it was something original from the factory I don't see how they could say anything.

Re: Louvers

Louvers are not illegal in any state. The amendment that he was referring to was a joke as many people on TGO think the louvers make the car look too 80s. It's really dumb since the 3rd gen is an 80s car!

Re: Louvers

Thanks for the info Scott. You're right, they are 80's cars but they still look good.

Re: Louvers

their are no laws about louvers, but their are laws in certain states about tint, Hawaii's law is you can't go darker than 35% anything darker is ilegal, unless it's a truck or SUV then you can have dark tint after the front 2 windows.

Re: Louvers

and the basis of that tint law is so that a cop in a pull over situation doesnt get ambushed or shot by the people in the back. and with louvers on, its kind of the same scenerio where they cannot see whats in the back clearly so i figured theyd somehow try taking louvers away from us and make it a show car use only item.

Re: Louvers

If i was a cop & i couldnt see in, i would everyone step out of the car w/backup, or have the driver open the hatch& or roll all windows down.
