Some of the body guys on here may have more input, but I think the burned spot will probably rust rapidly if you don't get it down to the metal and coat it with something.

My 88 is like that too, floorpans and everything have no rust whatsoever. I'd post pics but don't wanna make you all jealous :P

Getting back on topic, you wanna get rid of that burn spot like theforce said. It'll probably rust quicker if left untreated.

i have a 86 that lived in nj its whole life and is solid with no rust on the floors at all..

that burn mark is a little scary, maybe see if your cat or someting is touching the floor pan

Could the burn spot be from an exhuast leak? Do you want me to sand under the car? Or in the car?

edit

I got the car for $450

Did anyone try to weld something to the underbody before you got it?

Because it had to be something very hot, and very direct to cause that.

*Edit*

Someone could have dropped a cigarette too. Is it burned on the bottom?

Welp

I had an exhuast leak after the headers were installed. I took it to meinike and the welded the air tubes shut and a few other things.

Aparently it never was a smokers car, didnt smell like it either, but their was a cigarette under the carpet...

I dont smoke but I do

Appears to be on the pass side directly under the seat

The cats there

Clogged/messed up cats will glow redhot and if the heatshield (not sure if older models even had one) aint there you will get quite a bit of heat bleedthru

Only other thing I can think of is a VERY sloppy weld job when a cat was replaced
