An 86 TA weighs a bit more than that. Usually a TA tips the scales somewhere between 3,300 and 3,500 lbs. It all depends on the vehicles options, drivetrain, and even the amount of gas in the tank contributes significantly to weight. You can get these cars pretty light but it all depends how bad You wanna gut the car.

Hes right, gas does make a significant difference. A full 12 gallon tank has about 78lbs of gas in it, while a quarter full has a little under 20lbs IIRC. I actually have a question pretaining to this:
Is there any company that makes aluminum parts to replace the steel ones? Such as aluminum doors or an aluminum hatch (ever tried lifting it with the pneumatic lifters completely removed)?

the hatch is so heavy because of the glass not the metal part...if you like and can find a notchback hatch, they are fiberglass

every source i have found say that the 86 t/a is under 3200!! so maybe with a 300lbs driver i could see it up around 3500lbs

Axle/Gears: posi, and posi w/discs :D.
depends on how much drivability youre giving up.
on a full race car, gut the interior (all the panels, console, headliner, rear seats) fiberglass hood, aluminum trans and driveshaft, remove speakers, and take off the bumpers (not the covers, the bumpers themselves). but i DO NOT suggest taking off the bumpers unless it is ONLY a track car.

Ah yes, forgot how heavy the glass is.
Spare tire is a good 40-50lbs or so with all the equipment (jack, tire filler) so take that out before an organized race (but don't drive around without it). Another thing for weight reduction is to go on jenny creg
