T-Top installation and drawback questions

I've just recently bought an '86 Camaro as a project car, and have a lot of work to do on it. I was wondering if installing a t-top would cost a pretty penny, or jsut a lot of work, or both? Like, about how much would it cost if the idea comes to mind? My friend works at an collisions repair shop, and he offered to help me with my project car because he loves to work with cars, especially camaros like he has. So installation won't be a hassle, however I'm just wanting to konw about an apporximation of a price, or what all I'll need. A list of items would be most helpful, since ebay can probably help me from there. Or should I even go through the hassle of making it a T-top? And if I do, would it affect any performance from my car? Thanks

Uh i think it would be a lot easier to install a sunroof. Maybe if you found a donor car at the j-yard to get the parts off of but there would be structursal ridgity to deal with.

I personally don't think it would be worth the hassle...enjoy the car as a hardtop. Maybe I'm just bitter at the moment because my t-tops still leak after spending hours carefully replacing the seals.

There have been posts like this before. Basically it involves cutting a donor car at the quarters near the top and then basically welding it onto your car. It's a lot of fabrication, you might wanna ask this in the fabrication forum rather than here. They'll give you a lot more feedback/advice.

I have a better idea...if you REALLY are serious about doing this, go to Forum Directory - Core Coding and email Jim (JPack). He has a coupe that he did a t top conversion on by himself! He did all the work himself and got the kit on ebay. They don't leak and they look amazing. His car is an LT1 but the process should be about the same either way. Again, if you're serious about it, drop him a line and he'll be of more help than you can imagine.

Ive heard that the t top cars are less rigid than hardtops. if your looking to put some power under the hood of your car it might be something to consider. anyone else heard about this?

Im starting to get really paranoid with all of you talking about your roofs rusting lol. as far as i know i dont have this problem but they do drip once in awhile when driving in heavy rain. wondering if rust could be starting in an area you cant see with just the t tops off?? if there is an area like that i wanna check it out so i can take care of it before it gets bad.

With the T-Tops off peel back the weatherstrips and check under them, also look closely at the centerpiece that the T-tops tuck into that where they are most likely to rust. I getting up the money and nerve to replace the weatherstrips and remove any rust and repaint the area to prevent a reoccurrence if possible.
