Bad fiberglass hood question

I recently bought a 92 camaro/fixeruper. It came with a SS style fiberglass hood. But it looks like a cheap one, it sits lower than the fender on the right side and on both sides in the front buy the head lights it sits higher than the fender. Is there any way to fix this, or is it trash?

Also when you open it you have to bring it up about two inches, then pull each side forwerd then up so it doesn't hit and break in the back. I know on cars with hood springs you have to get lighter spings, do they make lighter struts?

Any thoughts? Thank You

I have a HARWOOD cowl induction hood on my 89 IROC, when 1st installed it was way off, you need to add shims, make adjustment holes on the brackets wider etc. to get it to fit correctly. Anytime a fiberglass hood is installed, it will rarely (if ever) fit like a glove the first time.

I don't mean to get off topic, but that is a damn nice hood. I've only seen that on one other car, and it was on this site. I hope you fix your problem.

In answering your strut question, the 2 struts were TOO strong for the hood when I closed it. If felt like the hood was going to split in half when closing. So what I did is removed the struct on the driver side, now with only one strut, it holds up fine (hood is much lighter than original) & closes easily, without feeling you have to fight it.

Thanks I'll try shimming it, and I'll take a strut out to see how that works.

you need to fix the fender gap....loosen the top bolts in the engine compartment and move it in and tighten it. this will help the gap a little and for the hood sitting too low, there are litte rubber things kinda like bump stops somewhere around the radiator support and you can loosen them to make the hood sit higher in the front and to raise the rear there is a bolt on each side with like a rubber thing over it that you have to pop off and than loosen it with a socket. not sure what size. i did this with mine and the results were great.
