Door Handles

Hi,

I'm trying to remove my exterior door handles.
I've got the 2 bolts off, but how does the rod come off? It's so hard to see up in there, to see how the handle connects to the rod.

I've searched the forum, and everyone just says 'remove the plastic piece' but I cant see how it comes off? Do you twist it, or is there a keeper holding it on??

Thanks
Chris.

you have to sort of pinch the plastic together on the inside and pull it out of the other side. than the handle will come right out

As I recall, you pull the plastic retainer up and away from the rod...place your finger on the bottom edge of the plastic, then flip it up like a switch. This releases its retention of the rod.

luckily because my weather stripping is so bad, I was able to stick a screw driver in from the top and get it off.

Never would have gotten it off otherwise, it was on there good!!

Not on top, but where the door seal ends right below the top of the door. All rotted away, was able to look in and see the rod and the plastic piece.

I need to get an interior back in mine (lol)
I have the dash, and the drivers seat and that's it (lol).

No carpet or anything right now.

Car is going to look new again, when I'm finally finished replacing all the wore out stuff.

I think I'm going to go with a dark charcoal or dark grey on the inside.

I have some carpet samples coming, so I'll see what I like best once they get here.

My big project right now is converting the mirrors, and windows to power.
The mirrors look easy, but the windows look like they'll take awhile. Not looking forward to getting the regulators out.

Then after that, I'll get the carpet and then start replacing plastics.

Hope you get the carpet! Can't beat that price!
is it molded carpet?
