Third Gen Doors Stuck ?

Anyone know what's up with the Third Gen doors getting stuck ? I just purchased an 88 IROC and it appears that the driver door must have been stuck because the door looks like it was pulled open using force. The latch on the inside of door jam looks "torn". I went to the junk yard and found all Third Gen doors to have the same sections "torn". The one door I found in good shape would not open and I'm assuming that it is the same issue there. Any thoughts on this ?

I think its just that the doors are heavy and over time the bushings on the hinge wear out, making it very hard to close the doors. Its a bit of a job to replace the proper parts so that might be why. Another reason: the one winter I had to keep my TA outside, every time we had freezing rain or drizzle, the doors were damn near impossible to open. I think I ended up popping the rear hatch, crawling through the car, and pushing from the inside out to get them open. I imagine if you pull hard enough, you could really mess up your door...

ya my doors get frozen up too, pour some hot water on the glass where it seals to the car, thatll free it up if theres some ice or a vacuum seal in there. it could also be that the door latch mechanism is rusted solid, does it feel like your lifting the door latch or does the door handle feel limp, like when the doors are locked?

have you gotten the door open at all? does it feel hard to move like the bushings are toast?

It's common, given the weight of the doors, for the pins to wear out. Check for scrape marks on the ground effects--inside car, rear of the door. If marks are there, the door has sagged and requires pin replacement.

Thanks folks...Looks like pins need to be replaced. The hard part will be finding replacement doors at a low cost. Anyone know of a resource to see what doors are interchangable with the 88 IROC ? I've heard of POntiac doors will work but not sure. Thanks for all the advice and help - This is a GREAT forum.

all camaros and firebird doors are interchangeable, but the differences will be power doors, power locks, and ground effect or non-ground effect. 82-92 is the same. check your local junkyards for doors, guaranteed they have a door there.

Pin and door replacement are two different things:

every now and then when i lock my doors in the winter, i crawl my way through the hatch myself. An when your doors frozen its definitely worth crawling through the hatch j.k.

Sorry - I failed to mention that since the door is bent already from someone forcing it open, I'm going to replace it but it is showing signs of bad pins on both doors. Sure wish someone made lighter doors.
