fresh air vent leak

ive been meaning to post this for a while, but any time i wash my car or if it rains, i get water on the driver side floor board. im assuming it comes from the "crotch" vent. is this an easy fix or do i have to get inside the dash to fix it?

I'd be interested in a fix as well.

The what vent??

I thought I knew every square inch of these cars. Please elaborate on this "crotch vent" while answering his question above.

I assumed my heater core just leaked through the vents and ended up there after a good right-hand turn.

my car is doing this on the passenger side. T-top seals are bad.

i dont think the T-top seals are bad, i think its a poor design, thers a gab between the door and the edge of the seal housing. that 1" gap allows water to leak thru. i managed to fix everything else but to fix that you need to fill that gap up w/ some fiberglass or something.

I assume this this the wire mesh business that runs across the top of the cowl. My leak somehow filters down through the dash area and drop at the driver's feet.

Crotch vents I *think* are on F-bodies without AC. Two little pull out vents on the driver's side. If there is a leak there (and it's not the t-tops, mine leaks at the t's, and I have no crotch vent) then it seems that seems like it would be a system design. Maybe some leaves got down into your vent system and are clogging the water drain that's in there somewhere. Other than that, I dunno what to tell you. I'll look in my manual, whenever I find it.

yes, those are the vents im talking about, i can see under the dash where it comes from, but i cant really see how it would be leaking through there, just wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. and i dont have t-tops on mine.

Yea. Looking through my manual (87 Factory) it looks like you might just have something stuck up in your vents preventing the water from draining out. With the cowl air input, you'd assume they'd setup a way for water to drain out. Whenever I get a hose I'll spray some water down in there and see where it comes out.

Re: fresh air vent leak

What are those vents called? I have one for the drivers side but just a hole were the other one would be. Where those for cars without a/c? I have RPO code C41 which is C41 : HVAC SYSTEM, HEATER OUTSIDE AIR, WITH FAN. Does that mean mine came with or without a/c? Because I do have the A/C with what looks like original hardware but thought it was odd that I have those pull vents under the steering wheel.

Yes, C41 has those manual fresh air vents. C60 doesn't. At least you guys have/had the vents in place. The IROC doesn't and all that's left there is a big gaping hole. Every time it rains, I end up with water in the driver's floor. Good thing it's already been 1. replaced, 2. sealed with POR-15 or similar, and 3. permanently sealed with DupliColor BedArmor over the top of the POR or whatever it is. I need to get my hands on a piece of steel to put over the vent hole and seal it. Don't want the fresh air vent (too many parts to obtain that are difficult at best to find), and I don't want the gaping hole there, either, with the 4th gen dash I plan putting in with its heater box (which had A/C and never heard of the fresh air vents).

So does that mean someone added all the A/C parts to my camaro and it wasn't factory installed?

If you have the car's original RPO sheet and it shows C41, it didn't have C60. It's an either-or thing. You can't have both, because C41 was heat/vent only and C60 was heat with A/C. Yes, someone added it at some point, probably because of the heat during the summer due to the hatch.
