Tow truck rips front spoiler
My car got stuck today in a snow drift. So the stupid tow truck driver hooks a chain to the front of my car and gets the car out but now my front spoiler has a 5 inch slit in it. The slit runs parallel to the ground. Sorry no pics yet because it's dark. He claims it can be repaired without replacing it since it did not split in half. I was so pissed because I had to drive this car today because my junker was not working.
Are those expensive repairs or should I try to get a new spoiler?
Can it be done in a day or is this a take forever repair.

A tow truck driver messed up my front when my car died. He was putting it on the truck bed. I went to the shop after my car was fixed, gave them the bill and they paid it.

Yes he gave me his card and said to call him next week but I want to know all of my options. It was AAA so I have some options with them as well but I want to know cost.

If there is a tear, you can fix it, but why not just go with a new piece?

If AAA is covering it then that is what I want. How much is a new one?

I doubt anyone should cover it but your insurance company, it's not the tow truck drivers fault you were in a ditch and he had to pull it out which resulted in damage. They never pay out....I'd call your insurance and they will sort it out.

Well AAA is sending someone out to look at the damage. Reguardless of what position my car was in (or who's fault it is) they should of found a way of towing without damage or said they could not do the work. That is what AAA said to me over the phone. I could of got it out with damage myself. The purpose of getting the tow was to have no damage.
And it was not a ditch it actually was in my driveway but slid off the concrete driveway into grass and snow next to the driveway. A fence is close by and the car was sliding close to the fence which would of been damage. I doubt the repair is more than the deductable. When I asked AAA the standard procedure they said they review and send you to a repair shop.
But just in case anyone know how much a spoiler cost to be repaired or replaced. I am thinking around $150 to $200.

haha, r u nuts. if the tow truck breaks it they fix it.. hense the reason they have " insurance for that" depending on the claim the company will often just dish out the money cause the deductable would make it pointless for going through insurance companies... however the front lip i think will run you about 200 bucks sprayed.. but i could be wrong

Exactly, you paid to prevent damage. If they knew what they were doing they would have had you sign a waiver liability. The only way to avoid damage was to pull from the back. Take it to a dealer they can make it look brand new.

Monday they have to fix. AAA gives the company the first option to make itlook like it was before the tow. AAA was all over this, had me send 'em pics, called the tow company, etc. Assured me it must be fixed so I feel better

That always sucks! My 3,800 mile '85 IROC-Z has two scratches on an otherwise perfect original silver paint job. They were done by a professional hauler taking it to a show. How's that for irony?!

200 is way low for the replacement and paint....
that peice along if a gm part is close to 230.00 last i knew gm still sold them new. no aftermarket on them yet. paint depending on color will be about 200 also
so i would guess a min 500.00 installed
jeff
and i agree no repair get a new one, they shold of protected it from the cable, ive done many recovery and tows and it doesnt take much to protect the car and it can be done.

Well I want a new part but I don't know if AAA will pay for a new part. I am definetly going in asking for a new part. AAA said the tow is obligated to "fix" the part to it's original condition.

its just plastic and can be patched together to look new, all they will pay for is body work and paint, if you want new thats on you
only arguement i would use to get a new one is our cars are low enough in the front that sometimes the gfx scrapes the ground, and you want a new piece because you are convinced that if it ever scrapes the repair job wont hold, where as a new piece would just flex a little

It's not his fault that you were in a ditch? Seriously?
You break your arm playing football and go to the hospital, the doctor screws up and whatever he/she did eventually causes the doctor to have to amputate your arm.
Too bad if we live in your world I guess, it's not the doctors fault that you broke your arm.
Doctors call it malpractice... but it really applies here too. Mal meaning BAD... BAD-practice. The tow truck driver was an idiot and made a mistake, therefore his company, or the company representing him (AAA), is responsible. Period.

Yeah on the '92. Boy was I pissed. Well I went to the tow trucks recomended body shop and the car goes in on Wed and I pick it back up on Thur. Of course they are going to do a patch job. I decided to let them do the patch job but at the same time I am going to buy a new OEM from my Chevy dealer for $225.00 and just have it in my garage. If the patch job for some reason does not hold I will just bite the bullet and put the new one on.
I will post before and after pics for all to see. The body shop seems legit and appears to do good work. I will know on Thursday.

Same thing happened to me the very first day I got my car. Tow truck brought it to my house, ripped the front gfx. He said call them and they will take care of it but they ended up giving me the run around for about a week and a half... U would think when they charge 60 bucks just for the hook-up, ALONE, they would take a lil' better care of someone's car. Your probably better off just getting a new one... Good luck with the repair...
