shaved door handles

I got a 89 rs and i was thinking about putting shaved handle kit on it, I was just wondering if anyone else has done this and weather it is a good idea or not worth the trouble. If anyone has which door kit would be the best to use?

I have it done on my car (more pics at my cardomain...link in sig) - though I did not do the install. It's worth it for a nice appeal, but I would get kind of annoyed if it were my daily driver, if your batter dies, you'll be crawlling in through the hatch.

my kit was from VPA - there are several good kits out there, one other being autoloc

Don't forget to check your local laws before doing this mod, shaved door handles are illegal in some areas.
Also of note is that some states have vehicle safety inspections and will fail your car if it doesn't have door handles.

All that said, if you want it done I'm pretty sure it has to be done by a body shop since there's no DIY kit available as of yet, of course if you are good at welding and have a grinder, a little sheet metal will be all you'll need

my 1991 has shaved door handles that were on car when i bought it and they are annoying. From sitting my battery went dead and now i can not even open the doors?Do not do this conversion.also many states they are illegal.I bought my car in Ohio where there is no state inspection but upon moving to pa the car will not pass safety inspection.I might move to virginia and in that state I can be pulled over and ticketed plus they will not pass state inspection there either.I have to get some work done on car anyway so at that point i will have to pay hundreds of dollars to get my door handles reinstalled. It is a bad idea to take your door handles off

Re: shaved door handles

I did it 5 or 6 years ago. I now regret it so not worth the hassle.

If its legal in your state all you have to do is buy the emergency lock cable kit to allow you to open the door in case your battery dies, thats what im gonna do. Here is a link to it.

Why not just crawl through the hatch?
And imo its kind of silly that they won't pass an inspection, I don't like when the government meddles like that, besides there's always the hatch in an emergency, and in many cases t-tops, only time having shaved handles would be a safety issue, is if you wrecked and passed out, and half the time the doors need pried or cut open anyways in a wreck bad enough for that to matter, and really if a fireman is trying to drag your *** out, how hard is it to break the window and open it from the inside...its meddlesome BS imo.
