How do you remove a windshield and Weatherstripping?

Hey peeps, stripping my camaro, coming along nicely, but having a couple probs. I'm new at tearing down a full car so whatever involves removing without a screw or bolt is a mystery to me. I've looked everywhere for answers but couldn't find answers for these three remaining questions:

: Not sure how to remove windshield on this car
: How can weather stripping be removed with killing it?
: Need to take doors off, the car is on blocks, half apart in a small storage facility, can't swing the doors wide open enough to get to the hinges. Am i screwed or would there still be a way to remove them?

If anyone can explain or find a link for me, that would be great. thanks.

you need to get a windsheild removal tool, I tried to get mine off with a thin wire but that was taking forever, with the tool it came out in 10 min. I got mine for 11 bucks at a local tool store. You can get the doors off by removing the fenders to get at the upper hinge bolts and the lower bolts you can get from the inside behind the kick panel if I remember correctly

I need to get one out also. I'll pick up one of the cutting tools but how does the black trim strip come out? I tried on one of the parts cars but it snapped. Any trick? heat gun?

it is wrapped around the windsheild glass and is glued in with the glass, it comes out with the glass just have to be careful when cutting the adhesive to not damage the trim.

to put the windshield back in it's probably best to have an auto glass company come out and reinstall it. rhey'll probably put a new trim strip around the glass it'll cost around $60 but i'd say its worth it. workmanship is usually guaranteed.

Re: How do you remove a windshield and Weatherstripping?

when i removed mine last month i used a piece of wide metal banding that you use for pallet loads in factories and such, sharpened up one edge of it, it takes some strength and pressure and maye some cussing too, and it likes to reseal itself too, you will bust it up and it will be messy ushing it out with your feet from the inside, dont wear shorts and do wear glasses or goggles, glass hurts

someone to keep the windshield pried up while you are poking around it would be great, will save you around half the time and cussing too , i removed mine on a warm day and full sun on the car and i kinda wish i hadnt because the sealer was too soft and sticky bad, especially along the driver side
the bottom you dont have to worry about it will come off the bottom once the top and sides detach

i had my hood off so i could stand on the cowl and grab thw windshield and throw it on the ground when i pulled it off

first i cut pulled away all the weatherstripping, you have to replace it anyways, can get a new one for 22 bucks online partstrain.com for example

good luck

you use urethane sealer from your local auto glass shop they sell it in tubes for caulk guns

about 10 bucks a tube

but it is very preferable to have the shop install it

in which i am going ot do,
i simply removed mine and cleaned it up and is ready, working on headiner repair now before i have a windshield put on

i swapped my hatch deck plate myself though, you use the same sealer on those except HV version of it(high volume)

good luck

i never thought about the banding, that's a pretty good idea, and doesn't cost anything if you use it at work all the time. I've pulled a couple windshields before and i just used a couple of putty knives. the sealant was tacky which probably made it easier to cut, and i had a couple small wooden blocks to put under the glass so it wouldn't seal though. you have to be PATIENT! if you rush and just try to get it out as quick as you can you will break the glass! i tried to help my friend pull his windshield but he had no patience and he busted the thing up reall bad. good luck

Cool, thanks guys, you helped me out a lot on this one, answered everything I needed to know. I did the doors some time ago after the post and it's all working out. And about the windshield, right... I will get a pro to install it.
