Re: is this legal for the street?

I dont' see why not. There are plenty of custom street rods that have this type of function and wilder things. As long as you have some sort of steel bumper there shouldn't be an issue. As a buyer I'd be most concnerned with the safety of myself and any future passenger. That front end isn't going to do s**t for you in a front collision. You'll probably have a new beltbuckle that highly resembles your engine if you crashed head on with any significant force.

Meant to backup my statement. Look at how low that front tubular brace is. The cross bar is down near the same level as your lower radiator support. A front collision is going to absord the impact about a foot up from there......there doesn't look to be any protection / frame there.

Re: is this legal for the street?

I dont see why it would not be legal, besides, it's not like the cops are going to pull you over to look at your frame...no one will ever know. The only thing I would be concerned about is safety in a crash

Re: is this legal for the street?

It should be legal. Not the smartest thing to do to a street car though. Like everyone else said, the guy removed everything made to make the car safe in a front collision.

Re: is this legal for the street?

Add a few more braces incase of a front impact and i dont see why it wouldent be street legal.

Re: is this legal for the street?

dont see why it would be illegal.. unless you have reconstruction laws.. then that would suck.. cause thats one hell of a reconstruction.. would look more like a drag car then a street car..

i would roll around with it if i had the time and money.. but maui is a really laid back place.. oahu would fine the crap outta you..

Re: is this legal for the street?

The only real problem with it is that therte isent suport high enough up. If something like a full size truck hits it it will just ride the diaginal frame suport bars right into the windshield.

Re: is this legal for the street?

it would cost someone $600 to cut everything out and for the hardware.. not including all the time and brain power to make the strut mounts and forward tilt front clip.. a "kit" of that magnitude could easily go for $3000.. its a shame it went cheaper than a rusted rolling chassis..

Re: is this legal for the street?

You said it man, id love to get in touch with this fellow, id like to know how he built it, the weight savings must be awesome, if he went with a tubular K member it would be even cooler. It would be almost 100% tube chassis.

But there would be alot to gain from learning how he built it.

Re: is this legal for the street?

IMO, i would love to have that car but i would want to build it myself.. for some reason, it feels better to know that you built it and not someone else.. it must be because i'm japanese and the pride thing overcomes me.. lol thats why the only people that ever touched my car were the guys at midas, to make my exhaust(no tubing bender or lift) and the guys at goodyear, to align my front end(no alignment tools)..

Send you car to ED and he will do the same thing for $1500. This is what he told me a year or 2 ago...

thats cool.. but it will end up costing over $3000 anyway.. read my location.. shipping to the seattle port is $900.. each way..

i would be better off attempting to do it myself..

Re: is this legal for the street?

first off, my 385 is only makin about 365ish rwhp and maybe the same torque(i know pretty weak for a built 385 but whatevers).. so far its been holding good.. it handles what ever i throw at it.. 5k dumps, 5500 dumps, second gear burnouts, powershifts, anything.. but with this thing, you gotta get the clutch set good or you will build some serious muscle tryin to powershift it..

oh ya, i never really had a good solid launch with this so you never know how that could end up(*knocks on wood*).. but i'm sure it will hold fine.. best 60ft of 1.81 off a 5500 dump on DR's, spinning like mad.. we'll see how it handles a 5k dump on 28x11.50 QTP's..

Re: is this legal for the street?

i am a manual guy myself.. i dont like to drive autos.. so if you wanna have FUN then a manual is the way to go.. but you will be plagued with traction problems.. autos are better for the strip.. they can stick the launch very easily.. but an auto (supposing you go th350 or th400) will limit the gas mileage since its like running a 4 speed manual, no overdrive.. its a tough decision.. dare i say, there have been times that i wanted to run an auto just so i can hook at the strip..
