88 wing style spoiler questions + pics.
Hi, I have a firebird that has some form of 3 piece wing style spoiler. One of the end pieces broke off recently so now I'm looking for another end piece. I've been told by 2 users in the classified boards that this is not a OEM spoiler for any firebird. The only mention of a 3-piece I can find from searching is in the context of a Camaro.
Some specifics on the spoiler not apparent from the pics. The underside of it has a big slot on it, the pedestals are adjustable and the whole thing is secured to the hatch by means of a single carriage bolt affixed in the spoilers slot. The bolt then protrudes through the pedestal and through the hatch.
So is this an OEM spoiler at all? (I understand that Formulas received the aero-wing by default). If it's not, any ideas on who might have made it? Or any suggestions on a good quality replacement that looks similar to this one?
I've attached two pics, one showing the broken off end piece, the other showing the driver's side which still has the end piece.
Thanks!

I must say I've never seen anything like that before. by what I'm seeing in your pics it looks like (to me anyway)that someone has cut the ends off of a stock firebird spoiler and extended them with the same ends only more length from the donor spoiler. This to my knowledge is definately not factory by any means, and also don't believe any aftermarket companys make one like that.My advice is buy a wraparound spoiler or a stock firebird spoiler.

That is not a factory spoiler. Your car came with tha aerowing. I can see the metal brackets on your hatch. Those brackets hold the arms af the wing to the glass. I have a fiberglass version on my car and I really like it.

I may have to buy that style. Here's another thing that makes me think this was manufactured somehow, just the pics of the remaining end piece. I don't suppose this is actually some kind of camaro spoiler? Those were 3 pieces right?
The piece in the pics actually has a patent number on it too.
Thanks!

I believe that is a generic pedestal spoiler. Look on the underside of your hatch. I bet you will see where the four holes for the wing(two on eac side) and two in the center for the brake light. They might be covered by black plugs. Camaro spoilers didn't have pedestals. They bolt directly to the hatch and quarter panels. With the exception of that one year piece (87 or 88?)and the 91-92 Z28 spoiler.

Ahh.... I was wondering what those brackets were for. I figured mine came with the aerowing style spoiler.
Yes, there are a number of of black plugs on the underside of my hatch. However the only holes I can find in the hatch itself are the two for the pedestals and two for the third brake light.
I ran the patent# (4558898) and found a complete description of the spoiler plus the end pieces. The patent was filed in 1985... Is it possible this design was used on base model firebirds before the one piece design?

If you find the part number or where to find it, let me know. I am looking for the opposite side as you.
Actually, if you want to sell your good piece I could sure use it. I'll make you a really good deal!
Please contact me. I would be very interested.

That's just a universal spoiler, not factory on anything. Pretty common thing to see on a car in the late 80's- early 90's.

Dont know for sure but that spoiler looks like the one that was used on the Knight Rider Kitt. And that was a 82 Car. Dont know if it is the same as what you have. It looks like one that i have but mine is all one piece. The ends dont come off.
