Fender removal

I just want to say I did a search first and didn't really find the help I was looking for. I need to remove my Drivers fender, I have the hood bolts off but now i'm stuck how do you get the bolts that hold the fender to the front nose/bumer? Anyone got diagrams or pix of where to start. Thanks in advance.

Re: Fender removal

its really simple once you can see whats going on under there. there are 2 studs that hold the fender to the bumper as you mentioned. when i took my fender off i had the light buckets out and the nuts are easily accessible although I'm sure you can get to them from the wheel well.other then that there are a few bolts along the top and bottom of the fender itself. good luck

Re: Fender removal

You can also go in by removing the headlight assemby (on firebird), or through the wheel well after removing the shield. They are equally annoying. I would not recommend going through the shieild area, because the shield is held on two ways. With a few bolts that secure it to the inner fender. As well as those plastic push in type "bolts" that secure the shield to the fender. Once the platic ones are removed, you usually need new ones.

SO i would advise going in through the headlight area.

1) Remove all the bolts up top with a 10mm. I beleive there are 3. Two on top, one beside, facing forwards.
2) Turn on the headlights, and disconnect the battery. This will leave the lights popped up, and turned off so you dont lose battery life.
3) Use the "****" to manually drive the motor, and look through the opening below the headlight and bumper, and keep turning the headlight down, untill you can see the TWO (2) bolts that hold the bottom part of the headlight.
4) At this point, you will need a BIG extension, i used 2 long ones. And a universal jointed socket. Not sure what its actually called, but it has a joint and it bends.
5) Then what i did was attach a magnet, to the extension, so the bolt doesnt fall off when i pull it off. (it also helps ALOT on reinstallation). THen you just undo the bottom two bolts, and pull the headlight assembly off.
6) Unplug the actual bulb, so you can get the assembly out of the way.
7) Feel for the bolts where the fender meet the front bumper. They are nuts actually, so you will need a DEEP socket. DONT FORGET THE ONE WAY AT THE TOP!!! You cant see it, but its there.
8) Having the battery out (or the charcoal canister for the driver's side), and going in through the side cavity helps alot. You will need various extensions to get to them all.

Hope that helps, i got pix too if u need em.
