rear hatch related questions

with the pull down motor removed the hatch shut evenly on both sides, with motor installed, driver side is up about 1/2",adjusted best I could but still won't pull all the way down, the motor has been broken and rigged back, and has some broken slides, will a good motor and slides fix this ,seems the motor is as far left and down as bracket allows,if moved over further, the striker wont line up????also whats the differece between firebird rear cargo light and camaro, would like to install on like a firebird with a switch to turn light off manually with hatch open

Re: rear hatch related questions

Firebird ana Camaro rear cargo lights are the same. The manual switch was used through 1988 model year. In 1989 through early 1991 it was changed to the light being turned on and off by the pull-down motor. The white wire from the pull-down wiring loom connects to a black with orange stripe wire of the light. It turns on and off ground to the hatch light. You can get a manual switch from any F-body equipped with the optional hatch light prior to 1989 model year.

Re: rear hatch related questions

No. It's not a problem with the pull-down motor. Look on the underside of the hatch for the black plastic six-sided adjuster. The one on the left is out too far. Screw it in until both side are even. Also make sure the pull-down unit is centered on the hatch hook. It can be adjusted side-to side as well as up-down by loosening the three 13mm screws mounting the frame to the car body. The square holes in the frame of the pull-down unit allow for plenty of adjustment. Mark where it currently is before moving it with a scratch awl or permanent marker.

it's as far in as can go,no hatch motor and no struts it shuts perfectly, with struts on you can hold it down shut and appears flush, have a manual latch, but how do you mount it ?

You don't. The manual slam latch that was used on earlier F-bodies won't mount to the bolting pattern used to mount the electric hatch pull-down unit.
