GFX removal and color change

I would like to paint my GFX black, but I have a few questions.
How do I remove them? How do I patch small cracks on the GFX? What could I use to cover the spots where it says RS? I just want to smooth over it.

GFX are screwed in to the body on the bottom and held on with a double sided molding tape on top. (on my 88 at least). i would say you could patch a small crack with a plastic bumper repair kit from any auto store. as for smoothing, i dont know. fiberglass, plastic body filler, maybe even the same plastic apoxy from the bumper repair kit. ...good luck.

irockid, you are correct, it is just screws and tape really and to repair the small holes i would personally suggest fiberglass, just make some fiberglass salad and try patching them up i would say....and the RS symbol, i would say the same idea, fiberglass salad all in there, but thats just my opinion

You're rocker GFX has 3 nuts you'll need to remove. 2 by the RS emblem (remove the inner fender panel to access) and 1 right in front of the rear wheel. (removal of seat & interior panel to access)
The piece on the door has about 6 nuts to remove. ( removal of door panel necessary)
The piece directly behind the rear wheel also has 2 nuts to remove. (accessed by removing the interior panels in back)
Those that are held on by tape were most likely removed previously. I had no adhesive tape on my original 92 when I removed them.

Right, there should NOT be any double-sided tape holding the GFX on. Just screws, nuts, bolts and a few clips on the front spoiler.

I thought the door pieces are also riveted on the bottom? I tried getting a door piece from a yard and i thought i had to drill the rivets out to get it off.

Only the actual fiberglass piece is riveted to the metal support bracket. Removing the nuts behind the door panel will remove the whole assembly.

when i was removing my side pieces, they would not come off the clips. they were wedged on very tightly, and ripped when i pulled them off. i would rather fix than replace them, but i am still curious if i did something wrong or if maybe i happened upon another problem with my car. it's a 92 rs
