Fourthgen donor car to my thirdgen T/A
Well,I have bought a 98 firebird formula ls1 and I also bought me a 82 trans am project car.The plan is to use as much as I can from the ls1 car into the 82 mod.Is there anyone here that have done a conversion like this?I would like to know what parts that fit?I have searched on swaps and I found out the interior and dash will fit and of course the engine and trans.I thought I would also use the hole electrical system from the ls1 car too.and the steering column is it possible to use it?Would like to know as much as possible about everything..Please tell me if you got some experience with this kind of swap. And of course pics
Thanks
Thanks

hi there im just curious as to why not just have/get a 98 if you want all this 98 stuff in and on an 82 instead of ruining an 82 ?
sounds like you want a 98 more than an 82
very interesting
im sorry i am very sentimental to the 82 83 84 birds and their originality
i just hate to hear of anohter one modified so much
these first three years were very unique to themselves and there are very few running around anymore
dont mind me though, i just cant understand why ppl cant stand the 82 83 84 birds how they were off the assembly line, i think they were absolutel;y perfect and beautiful and need no changes at all and i am glad i have one that is going to remain stock factory correct, i am even going to return the paint back to the original light blue 21 code
just remember this is going to be alot of work and so forth and your car will be down and out of service for a considerable period of time, i hope you are very electrically and mechanically inclined, and also have a photographic memory to remember how all the interior goes
i hope that another original 82 83 84 doesnt get torn apart and never finished, it happens wayyyy too often
good luck!

All personal prefrence. I thin 4th gen interiors look awosome in Fire birds.. not so much camaros... If i had one and was able to do that swap i would rather do that then restore it.. Thats just me. But i agree with the swap
you can do interior, engine, tranny, rear end, rear suspension. plenty of things so require some tweaking like the interior some parts do. Rear ends a direct bolt on.

I would have converted to 4th gen interior to but my interior is nice and not beatup which is the only reason I kept the inside stock, but believe me after driving a 4th gen for 4 weeks gotta say I like the dash layout way better then my 3rd hands down.

Yes you can swap all the electrical and you could install working air bags if you install all the wiring. The ABS and wiper motors were the only two parts I did not swap. Wiper motor is a huge pain, your best bet for wiper install is aftermarket. ABS is a problem withour making up some special pieces for the from brakes since the sensor is in the hub. The rears is simple. The steering column is the same I believe or you could just swap out the wiring on it over to your new one, thats what I done. You could use the rack and pinion if you mod up install brakets and cut and shorten the part that threads onto the outer tie rod. Good luck.
PS swap the gas tank as well.

Well, your could PHYSICALLY mount the air bag steering wheel & column, but an 82 won't have the crash cross bar under the dash, no mounting brackets for the air bag sensors, nor react in the same way to a crash,\ So it won't be offering the true protection with air bags.

I have photos all through this site look up me up. It is a evoluzione.
As for the air bags I have a complete 4th gen interior with all wiring from it installed and sensors mounted in the same locations as factory. Yes they may work or then again may not but they are all installed and I see no reason for them not to work. All I need to turn it on is the air bag steering wheel that is not yet installed. Hope to never test it.
