HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
Having a little dispute here with my friend about which spoiler looks better so just want to get everyones opinion on which they think is better. Remember this is your OPINION so let it rip!

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
The HAWK's looks more factory than that Z/28 one. What lines exactly is the factory one supposed to be following? What kind of Camaro heritage was GM even following here? The HAWK's ducktail gets one thing on my mind....... second-gen IROC. Now that's heritage!!!

That's exactly what it says to me. Looks WAAAY second gen. I'm all about my little stock 1" spoiler. Adds just the right amount of character. Very few cars pull off the Z28 high rise.

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
I heard of people having some fittment issues with the Hawks wing, but I know people who had no issues. I say Hawk even though I have 2-92 Z28s. Cause you already have the holes to mount the Hawk wing.

Hawks 5'' I had the Z-28 and got rid of it and now have a new deck lid also. If you deside to get the Z-28 you might want to get a spare deck lid too.

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
Honestly I don’t like high-rise spoilers; I think they look too much like rice, but if I were forced to choose I would rather see high-rise, then the retro look. Neither is my favorite and would probably stick to the factory spoiler for that car.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
From what I recall, there was a definite lack of "rice" back in 1991 when that wing came out. Not that r1cers didnt exist, just not nearly as prevalent. I have a hard time calling that wing "rice" when it predated most r1cers. As for heritage...check out the 69 T/A spoiler on the hard top.

I think it just depends on you're preferance and your car of course!
Some cars look good with the 5" hawks spoiler and some just don't.
And there was no ***** issues in 91!

I'm not partial to either spoiler, but I know that they both look real nice on the right car/color combo.

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
Have you even seen the z28 high rise in person? Every angle and shape ties into the body lines and shape of a third gen IROC/Z28, especially the '85-'90 cars (even though they weren't used then).
Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
i vote for the hawks 5". but thats because i have one...lol. people posted earlier are right about fitment issues and mine took alot of prep work before paint AND I MEAN ALOT!!! but now that all the filler and sanding and painting is done, it was well worth it. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x...aropics370.jpg

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
If it's a 91-92 then it's heritage is a highrise spoiler, which, I must agree, fits the lines of the car perfectly. Otherwise, I believe in a car like an 85-90 Z28, the hawks 5" spoiler is the only way to go. It's got the hard lines that follow the rest of the car including the ground effects.

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
The "5 inch spoiler" in general looks good, but no worth it in my opinion. Its way over priced, plus more money/time just to get it to look/fit right makes it way not worth it to me. Oh and once you notice how the side pieces on Hawk's 5inch spoiler go past the taillights, it sticks out like a sore thumb and to me that looks butt ugly.
I'd stick with the 91-92 high rise, or stock z28 spoiler until another company makes a better 5 inch spoiler.

I liked the Z/28 High Rise back when it came out, it was so different it was cool, but now I really don't like them, the Hawks looks better but I would prefer a 3" high one, I think the 5" is overkill.

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
I pick the stock Iroc spoiler over the 5 inch or 3 pce. Looks cleaner. Though the 5" looks a bit aggresive, but thats all i give it, nothing i would ever buy.

Z28 wins in my book, but I agree that it should be accompanied by the 91-92 GFX...I may be a bit biased though...

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
Where is the guy who had a wing on his car? He had a really nice one, painted to match the color of his car (teal). Just for reference he also had the car setup with 2 rectangular headlights rather than the 4 factory square ones. Id realy like to find out where he got his, it realy flowed well with the car. Anyone know who Im talking about? Have pics?

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
I cant find this magazine article i read a long time ago about the IROC in gran turismo but from what i rmember that spoiler was desined originaly to look like the ferrari f40 wing and the vents on the side skirts were also mimicked ferrari touches. Reason being the designer who penned the concept owned an f40 and he liked it so much that he added some styling cues from it to the IROC prototype.

Re: HAWKS 5" VS Z28 SPOILER
yea the fitment really isnt that bad. Its just as bad as an aftermarket fiberglass hood. Any aftermarket piece that is injection molded will not fit all cars like factory.

I have an 82 Z-28 and I for one love the 5" on the early Third Gen Camaro I will be buying one. But I also agree with the Iroc/Z ground effects flow with the factory wing
