Anyone upgraded to better headlights?

I have been considering changing out my headlights to a higher watt bulb. Something that would give me a brighter beam, especially on the high beam side. I thought I'd seen somewhere there is a better bulb that fits in the stock location.

Has anyone used headlights out of a different vehicle? I noticed that my sons 300ZX has a lamp assembly which looks like it would work with some modification to the bumper cover/head light area. Might be a cool look with the bulb lense sort of filling the area in. Kinda like those "aero" covers over the bulb.

Re: Anyone upgraded to better headlights?

I upgraded my headlights so to speak. I just bought the ones that are by sylvannia at autozone. They were 20 bucks a headlight and they are supposedly HID, they work tons better than the normal ones and i can see alot better and further.

I think your refering to silverstars?.. if so taht's what i have on my camaro now, they are great if your on a budget.. and they make the regular one's i had on the car before look like crap..

and also if you decide to do the 300ZX thing please post pics of, i've heard people on the fourms talk about doing it but i've never seen the finished result.. and i'd imagine it'd look cool

Yea thats what i have the silverstars, they really put the old lights to shame. The 300ZX thing seems like it could work im interested to see what a finished product will look like.

Re: Anyone upgraded to better headlights?

Any of the Silvania's are NOT HID's.

I was gonna do the H4 housing swap, but after I plugged the silverstars (H4 bulb) into my H4 housing for a test, they were MUCH BRIGHTER on bright, but my stock headlights were brighter on regular. And since you use your regular beams a lot more often....

Also. Do NOT use the Motorcycle H4 bulbs that are 100w. Those are much brighter than your current high beams, and there are a bunch of Honda's rolling around with them, and I just wanna pull the drivers out of the cars and beat them senseless for making me blind at night.

So are the silverstars "plug and play" or do they need to be worked in? Also i haven't seen these anyone got a pic?

I did the housing swap with some Hella housings and I love the housings, very high quality, but my experience is the same as your test, low beam sucks big time. I'm looking for an alternative to the silverstars for more low beam performance.

Re: Anyone upgraded to better headlights?

You have to swap some of the wires on the harness for them to work correctly. There are 2 wires that need to be swapped. They may have the exact same plug, but the wire configuration is different.

Re: Anyone upgraded to better headlights?

i upgraded my headlights with the Hella Vision Plus kit that takes the H4 bulb and installed the Painless H4 conversion harness to go along with it and put Osram Silverstar H4 bulbs in. all i can say is WHAT A DIFFERENCE! the new bulbs/ housings make a HUGE difference. also the harness makes it so you can go up to 150W bulb without any problems if you wanted to without worrying about burning up any stock wiring. right now my bulbs are 55/60W but i bet if i put in Hella 80/100W or even 100/130W bulbs it'd be even better, but i don't really wanna go illegal. i think this has been one of the best and most beneficial upgrades i did on my car.
