just picked up a nice set of formula rims, the later style i assume with the allen key "bolts" around the edges??? From what i've read i always thought that they were fake and for a designed affect or something. This is the first time physically infront of a set, and i was studying mine and noticed this "bolt" that looked backed out. I thought they were fake?! Can i just tighten them? I don't want to lose one, noone else might not notice but it would bug the hell out of me knowing that i lost one. Can i just put it back in? I would try but with all the other fake bolts in the car (inside door handle bezel) i don't want to strip it or anything like that.

this is what one of my screws looks like, on the other rims it seems that one or two are staggered so i would like to fix this. (picture attached of worst one).

Also if anyone has an RPO on this wheel and the tire that is supposed to be on them that would be great. The firebird that had the rims on them was on a base model 86 Firebird so thats why i coudln't get much info on them because i know they don't belong to the car, like suggested tire pressure or what size tires should be on the front or back. I think they have 240/50 on the front and 255/50 on the back IIRC. Sound alright or anything supposed to be bigger? Thanks!

 

That hex bolt does not screw out; I wish they did. I believe they're pressed in. I am in the process of restoring my rims and I picked up a practice rim to experiment with. I tried to screw that allen bolt out and only managed to destroy it. As far a tire size, Formula came with 245/50/16 at all 4 wheels.

 

thank you, the guy that had the rims had 245/50s (checked after i got off) on the front, and 255/50s on the back. Looked pretty good actually. So would you say like an allen key and a rubber mallot? What fixed your issue?? Thank you!

Anways, anybody know the RPOs as far as the rims and tires?

 

I think that should do it. I only tried to remove them from my practice wheel so I never really tried to fix one.

Anyone else have experience or own a car thats supposed to have these wheels? They are the formula wheels with the "dimples"/fake allen screws around the edges. Anyone have any experience in fixing the ones that are coming out? Anyone that owns the car, do you have an RPO for the rims and tires that were original, and do you have the PSI rating that GM gave them? Thanks for looking!

 

I also have the RPOs and the PSI rating, but I am out of town right now so I don't have access to that info. I'll drop you a line when I get back with that info.
