Noob Questions...

Need help from the Experts... I have a couple questions...

1) Which is better when sanding down bondo on quarter panels? Hand-Block Sanders, or Sander Bits on a Dril?

2) How hard is it to re-create the crease that goes along the center of the quarter panel?

Re: Noob Questions...

block sand all your bondo by hand, it'll come out the straightest if you go at around a 30* angle with the block.

that "crease" is a body line that gives the metal strength, whats wrong with yours?

Re: Noob Questions...

I hope you aren't planning on filling that whole area with bondo! Drill a couple holes and use a dent puller, get it as close to factory as you can, then use the bondo to finish it up, trust me, you'll be happier.

Re: Noob Questions...

no use drilling holes, use a stud welder with a slide hammer, will pop it right out then use a little bondo to finish it up and get the line nice again.

Re: Noob Questions...

You have a lot more going on there then just a dent. Your whole panel is out of alignment. Your spoiler part on the end might be a little messed up too. And they are both right - you can't fill that with Bondo.

Re: Noob Questions...

You think it might just be the angle of how i took the picture that makes it look out of alignment? I think i sha'll try to do the slidding hammer, I'll go pick one up at the store tommorrow... Any suggestions on which brand? or where to get a good one?

panel looks fine to me around the spoiler area.
It may just look out of alignment in the pic as you stated.

Nice... Think urs does need a panel replacement...

Well if i use the Slidding hammer where should i drill the holes on the dent? and will this pop the crease back where it should be?

Re: Noob Questions...

first of all, the best wat to do it would be to use a stud gun. it welds rods onto the panel and you use a slide hammer to pull the dent. i wouldn't recommend drilling holes. also.. i think you should be more concerned about the rust issues. you could get that dent looking perfect but if you don not take care of that rust properly it will spring right back up in 6 months or a year and you will be hatin' life.

stud gun welds studs to the panel, no drilling holes involved, then the slide hammer just grabs the stud and pulls the dent out...
