Would it fit?

This might seem like a strange question. I've looked all over the place and cant seem to find anything on it.

At some point I knew a guy who had a 3G firebird that had a trashed front clip on it. He couldnt get his hands on any firebird parts so he ended up putting an '89 camaro nose on it. I never got to see it finished so IDK how it lined up.

I am currently in the same predicament. My question is, would everything bolt right up? and better yet, would everything LINE up? Build sort of a.. Famaro? I have never had the two close enough together to compare rear body lines but from looking at pictures from several angles, it seems it should fit.

input?

Re: Would it fit?

I don't know 1st hand, but I imagine you would have to swap the fenders and hood too.

Re: Would it fit?

As far as I know the front clip should bolt on, the headlamp wiring harness would have to be modified/replaced going from a 2 headlamp system to a 4 headlamp.

Re: Would it fit?

Well replacing fenders and such would be no problem for me. I kinda figured the wiring was a little bit different. My main thing I need to know is, would the fenders line up with the doors? or if I had to change out the doors, would the doors line up with the quarters?

Re: Would it fit?

I wouldn't see why the doors wouldn't line up, they're interchangeable for both cars.

Re: Would it fit?

Okay well thats what part of my problem was, I didnt know if the doors were the same. A bunch of people I know kept tellin me "Oh no, those arent going to fit/look good on your car because of the quarters"

Re: Would it fit?

it will line up fine and look ok, maro and firebird door as mentioned above are interchangeable for the most part. Everything will line up, I think it looks pretty cool too personally, I've seen it in person with an 86 ta 92 maro front.

Re: Would it fit?

I cant find a pic of it. I've seen a couple places where people talked about them but cant find any pics.

If anyone has one or knows of someone who does I could REALLY use some pics of it. The more + the better the pics the better off I'll be.

Re: Would it fit?

the door or the fender on that looks really weird, not sure which it is, could really use a side view not sure if the door is dented or its just a bad alignment job but it gives you an idea of what it will look like..

Re: Would it fit?

It looks to me like he didnt spend enough time lining up the fender with the door so it kinda seems like the fender overlaps the door? IDK. plus it doesnt help that hes got crappy factory paint thats dull and ugly matched up with fresh, shiny paint on the fenders. But.. looks great other than that IMO. I think it should look better when I replace my factory spoiler with a camaro high rise.

Re: Would it fit?

It will all definately fit. I have a '92 formula with an '89 Z front end. You have to swap everything from the fenders forward. I personally like the camaro front ends better also. One of the main reasons I did it was because the cost of the bird headlights. 600 bucks a piece for used brackets, motors, and buckets. Versus 700 for a complete camaro front end. I didn't really have to think very hard...

Re: Would it fit?

It really does. Just the difference in the taillights. But thats what makes it unique right? and I talked to the guy. The reason it doesnt seem to line up right is because his fender is bent just a little bit.

And if you could somehow get a pic of that camino, that'd be cool. I have been thinking about buying an El Camino but I decided against it because I didnt like the front end on it. And all the SS's w/ Monte noses on em are sky high priced or not for sale.

EDIT:camarobird, can you give a little insight on hooking up the headlights. The guy I spoke to said something about he didnt bother hooking up the high beams but rather using those as his FOG lights. I was like wtf!?

Re: Would it fit?

It's kinda hard to remember. I built that car while I was in vo-tech during high school. Almost 10 years ago. I think i just modified the bird harness with new connectors to run outer lights on low beams and all 4 lights for high. I am planning to redo that car within the next few years. I'm thinking about getting the 4x6 conversion headlights and modding it to accept a projector beam on the outer 2 and using the inner 2 buckets for ramair duct openings.

I just remembered that the most difficult part of the whole swap was attaching the bird ground effects to the camaro fenders. the mounting brackets are different. That is something I still need to do. At age 17, I was impatient and not so detail oriented. I just used double sided tape. That way lasts about a month and then must be replaced. Not the best plan.

Re: Would it fit?

Well I wont be doing the front end swap anymore anyway. My dad was supposed to pick up the parts while he was in W.V. Instead he made a "personal choice against it". He pisses me off sometimes.

I know you're not doing the swap anymore but the headlight conversion is very simple. You take the stock 'bird harness (two + and one -) and splice two sets of connectors into it. One + is low, splice one connector to it and the ground; this is your new low beam connector. The other + is high, splice one connector to it and the same ground; this is your new high beam connector. That's what I did when I ran dual projectors on my 'bird - worked out great. A relay can be used to keep both sets of lights on at the same time; I don't know if Camaros have four on with highs. Hope this helps anyone doing something similar.

If your paying more than $25 for one headlight assembly, your getting ripped off. Every time I see one, it is listed that cheap.
