Painted T-Top Pics?
Painted T-Top Pics?
I am considering buying a 91 Z28 with lexan T-tops... The car is nice but the tops look horrible. I have read you can paint the tops to match the car. Does anyone have any pics of this?
Thanks

That sounds kind of ghetto to me..... long as they dont leak, I would just deal with it until you can pony up the money for a nicer set or a brand new set.
I have Lexan too and mine have a few imperfections, I acually find a little tire shine, followed by a bit of wax will make them look brand new for a few weeks.

Re: Painted T-Top Pics?
I was under the impression you could no longer get new sets... link please!
I have seen some used IROC-Z tops around for sale but i read that they don't always fit properly from car to car and can leak. *shrugs*

I searched around, new ones were like 400-500$ a set I think.
I cant find the link now, try searching on here, im sure someone has posted a link, or try googleing around a bit.

Youjust have to make sure the t-top pins have the same size pins as your old ones. I had a body shop paint mine, looked good, and kept the sun from baking me. I wish I still had them, LOL

Re: Painted T-Top Pics?
How bad are they? I cleaned up a set for one of the cleanup kids that worked for me...They were looking like they were peeling and crazing...I decided to see what I could do with wetsanding and wheeling them out...I started a little more coarse than I was comfortable with... (with his permission, of course,) worked my way down to 2000g. Buffed them...trimmed out the side rails with SEM Trim Black...They were like new...

Re: Painted T-Top Pics?
I had a dark green '92 RS that I painted the Lexan T Tops to match the car. I even painted the inside tan to match the interior. I definately like the glass "look" better, but the painted tops looked good too. I don't have any pics though...

I hate the lexans. Mine I had were cracked and were in rough shape. Have you thought of checking ebay yet? I bought a Great set about 2 months ago for 70$ including shipping and they were immaculate.

Re: Painted T-Top Pics?
Some body looking for new T-tops? I have a set of Glass T-tops in pretty much perfect condition, the fit a 1984 Camaro z28, they should fit the 91, if not, i have a friend that has a 91 z28 that i think has t-tops, glass again, the rear end was destroyed, i am considering swapping the rear ends, but i might not, if i decide against it, then i think i could part with those t-tops. so ya, email me if your interested, i'll subcribe to this thread to you can just post if u want

Re: Painted T-Top Pics?
I was retard once and left my pass side unlocked well it grew wings and hit the road. I bought one from a guy to replace it but it was off of a firebird it leaked and it had more of a bubble to it than my driver side. After several years i found a junk car i bought an 84 with real glass tops, they were perfect and fit better than my lexans did.

Re: Painted T-Top Pics?
Another option is this.
Paint the tops to match the car, and make sure to do a good job.
When you can find them for a good price, also buy a pair of glass ones.
Then on the days you wish to have no sun you can put on the painted ones, and on the other days the glass ones.

Mine looked like jason1313's. Noone realized they were painted until they got in the car and looked up. If the shop is really good and wet-sands and buffs them they will look like glass.

Re: Painted T-Top Pics?
No diff then custom jobs that paint right over the headlights and stuff. Long as its preped right it works well.
I painted right over my side markers on my bird when I did it. Though not the primer, just the black paint. Looks nice and they still light well at night.

Re: Painted T-Top Pics?
will any year fit any year? I forget what thread i read about the guy going from lexan to glass and it not working right.
I know the glass T-Tops fit all years that had factory glass T-Tops. but the lexan T's have bigger locking pins making them fit but will not latch.
And also, there are only two types of T-Tops for '82-'92 Models. The easiest way to quickly identify which type you have is to measure the t-top glass length where the glass fits under the center t-bar: Factory Installed T-Tops (Fisher) = 30 1/4" Aftermarket Installed T-Tops (Cars & Concepts) = 28".
Not sure though how many had the aftermarket T's.
BTW, I have two parts firebirds with glass T-Tops and i'm selling the the t-tops $100 for a set if interested.
