t top weather stripping
I was wondering if someone could tell what brand of weather strippinis best I just spend 500 on new gm stuff they have in in the car of 3 months they are tearing and cracking. To say the least I 'm a little pissed. An advice would be great.
Re: t top weather stripping
try hawks third gen. they are really reasonable in price and it is really good quality stuff. it is a gm repo so it fits really well, i have no complaints about it. i have also read that to help prevent cracking is to cover the weather stripping with vasoline and let it soak in periodically to help keep it from drying out and cracking.

If we are talking rubber weather stripping vasoline would be a BAD idea.
Petroleum based products deteriorate rubber.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I've heard of using vasoline also, but only on otherwise old or bad weatherstriping as a means to bring some life back into it.

Hmmmm.
I have been building water cooling systems in PC's for years and a trick people used to use was to coat the hose barbs with vaseline until someone found out it started rotting the hoses. That's when teflon tape became the sealant of choice.
Maybe they were using latex condoms for tubing
Either way, with all these people doing it for years and no bad results, I say power to ya. Was just trying to save you some headache.

Just because the weatherstripping came from the dealer doesn't mean it's OEM. You need to order OEM by part number. Some dealers use OER or another type which I have heard falls apart. You definately don't want to Vaseline on the seals. it will break them down. Something doesn't sound right about $500 seals and breaking down already.
