Stuck Door

Has anyone ever had their door just be plan stuck shut. It is like the lock is on but if I try and unlock it and pull the handle it still won't open.

Re: Stuck Door

when i took my handles apart to repaint. i bent the rod on the inside of both doors and it did just that. the handle had tension on it so it felt like it should have been unlatching the door but because of the way the rod was bent it was not moving the latch enough to unhook it.

Re: Stuck Door

You may have a rod that fell off. If not the your latch is probably toast.

Re: Stuck Door

Ive got this problem right now, its just happened tonight, ive been working on the car and ive opened and closed the drivers door a few times no problem, then went to open it again and nothing, its like its locked except it isnt.

luckily enough ive got the door panels off as im in the middle of fitting new locks and handles as the cars just been painted, but even getting my hands in there and pushing down where the rod goes it still wont pop open, aaargh !

whats the next step coz obviously i cant have my drivers door closed forever

Re: Stuck Door

I know this thread is cold, but did any of you determine the solution? I just replaced my driver's side exterior door handle and a week after, the door just stopped opening from the outside. I can open it from the inside but not the outside. I am thinking that there is something wrong with how I reinstalled the rod that goes from the handle to the latch.

Did any of you solve your problem? Looks like I get to disassemble the door a second time to fix it. Any insight would be appreciated.

Chances are the rod fell off the handle, since it still works from the inside. Did you use a retaining clip when you put the rod back on?

Although I know about this very well (ripped the handle off of my 83 Z28 one winter). I doubt he is having that problem in Florida, unless he's moved and not updated his info.

Re: Stuck Door

Solved the problem. Thanks for your input. Turns out that it was not the rod, but that got me thinking. The rod was connected at both ends. I kept working the handle/latch mechanism until I noticed that the travel on the handle side was stopping not by the latch travel but by interference between the handle and the door body.

Apparently, I was too cautious when tightening the handle speed nuts and did not get them tight enough. After a week of use, the handle shifted slightly and caused the interference. I loosened the nuts, repositioned the handle and all is now fine.

I did not notice it before because the handle did not seem loose. Unfortunately, it was just loose enough to let it shift out of position but was still tight to the touch.

Thanks for your help and, no, it did not freeze here in good old FL. It was 70 yesterday!
