Can a guy get a Bumper?
I'm doing a restoration of my 85 Z28, and I have it at the body shop now. Monday, he took me in the back and showed me that my bumper cover sagged in a few places. I know this is sort of a common problem with cars that weren't garaged because of the heat from the sun. Usually it's worse in the nose but mine's fine. My question is: Is there any place I can find a NEW bumper cover for my Z? I'm really not interested in taking chances on used parts because they might be worse than my current cover. I've checked with Year One, Classic Industries, GM Parts Direct, and D&R Classic so far. All of them say that their supplier went under, or that they just can't get the part. Since this is probably the biggest grouping of Third Gen owners on the internet, I figure somebody has had this problem before.

Re: Can a guy get a Bumper?
Well, currently you can't tell visually that it's there, you can only notice it when you run your hand over the cover and it dips in a few places. However the cars paint right now is very oxidized and blue, when it gets changed to gloss black I'm afraid that it'll start to show in the light and then its too late...
I'm going for the middle of the road between daily driver and show car, a place I like to call "My Weekend Ride." I'm almost tempted to tell him to paint it as is. Its not damaged or anything, just a little saggy. But I figured if I could find a new cover for a reasonable price I'd put it on.

Have you tried hawks thirdgen yet? There are some places that re-condition bumper covers for body shops. One is called Arizona plating. (Thats a local shop here, but your body shop should know where to send it.)
Good luck!

Yeah, I'll hafta go in tomorrow morning and ask him about maybe reconditioning it, as far as Hawks, they don't carry exterior parts on their site...
Somebody should build those, they wouldn't have any competition...

There is a place here in San Antonio that reconditions bumpers and nose cones. I can check a price for ya Monday 12/1.

Even new ones have been setting in a box on a shelf for years now. That'll sag em more than anything. I think shrinkage has more to do with it than anything but the bodyshop should be able to put a little heat on it and work up the low spots. You're right though ... with a shiny new black paintjob it'll probably show.

Re: Can a guy get a Bumper?
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I eventually found a place that is having them made and I had to wait till the first batch of bumpers came in and I had to see if they were gonna fit right. The guy at the shop where I'm getting my car painted says the new bumper fits like a glove. So I have to give a recommendation for Camaros and Classics, If you need a bumper for your cars, definitely give them a call. It was like $320 shipped which isn't bad for a bumper. I was seeing ranges from $300 - $450 online from places like Year One (who don't even stock it...) Just thought I'd tell everybody.

Re: Can a guy get a Bumper?
I went to the link above and their bumper cover looks to be sagging worse than any I have seen before
maybe it's just like that because it has no support at the moment and it would look perfectly straight when installed... but the picture doesn't instill confidence.

Re: Can a guy get a Bumper?
Well I was after the rear bumper cover, not the front, it fits good...
Also the middle that's sagging basically hangs from the top IIRC. So I would think that it'd hang straight when installed.
