dare I commit this atrocity?
so I want to commit what may be an atrocity. I want to put a 89 formula style hood with the driver hood scoop on my 84 z28 camaro. Attached is my first car that will always be my favorite car. It was hit by drunk driver. So does anyone know of a vendor that would sell a hood like that for my camaro or of a way to put an actaul formula hood on?

What are you gonna do about the headlight cuts in the formula hood? Weld them shut? Sounds like a lot of work involved. There is no aftermarket vendor that makes a bird hood fitting a camaro.

you can put an entire front end of a firebird on your camaro, otherwise I don't see how it would fit.

Re: dare I commit this atrocity?
you can bolt the hood to the camaro, but you would need to change the fenders, fill the headlight openings, and wii most likely have to modify the front of the hood too, and more and more and more.....

Re: dare I commit this atrocity?
Back when I wanted to make a Knight rider replica (thank god i didn't lol) there was one company that sold just the cowl that you could rivet to your hood, kinda like the 3"-5" cowls you can buy for these cars. I think the name was GPR laminator or something like that. you might wanna look through sites that make parts for knight rider replicas and im sure you can find something like that.

Re: dare I commit this atrocity?
It would be much easier to modify a fiberglass hood than to do all that welding on a steel one. Unless it was as easy as filling in the cutouts for the headlights. But like Brennan says, I don't think thats going to be the case.
Re: dare I commit this atrocity?
No offense, but I really hate when people swap T/A parts to a Camaro and vice versa. These cars have enough identity problems as it is.
I really hate it when people come up to me and tell me they love my Camaro when I'm driving either my '92 GTA or the '97 WS6.

and ive seen a camaro around here with a firebird front end, ugly as sin. you either have a camaro or firebird not some camaro-bird thing. but i think just a hood could be forgiveable if it looked good Thread Starter

Re: dare I commit this atrocity?
i decided against going with firebird scoop. instead found a fourth gen camaro with the SS hood. I sanded my hood to all living hell, cut the scoop plus more of the SS scoop, cut a hole in my hood, cut the inside of the scoop out to make it a functional scoop, then welded it onto my car. I had to fabricate a few little supports and weld those on. Now going to reroute intake to actaully be sucking in from the scoop. I still have to figure out what i want to seal it with, since to make it look right there is about a 1/8-1/4 gap. Probably just going to use some body filler. going to post some pictures soon.

In any case, that should look pretty different when it's all said and done.

Re: dare I commit this atrocity?
Nope, the hood is similar to the slight bump that is on a Z31 Nissan 300ZX, as are the headlights.. Doesn't even have vents. Little OT though...

I thought the Camaro SS hood was fiberglass?

Re: dare I commit this atrocity?
people do the same with my gta. they say nice camaro but i don't mind i just correct them and smile.
Re: dare I commit this atrocity?
I have 88 Firebird rims on my Camaro. Only cause I need new rims and they were free. Personally something like that at the moment I don't care.
I will add this though.
I did have a kid ask me if my Camaro was a T-bird. Then he tried to tell me it was a desigened after the T-bird and Corvette.
