Quick fix for my door problem?

Closing my doors, especially the drivers side, if I just casually close it and I push a little or lean on it at all, it will slightly open, but not actually open. I have to almost slam my door shut for it to not do this... was just wondering, is there a quick fix for it? Surely this has happened to a lot of others.

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

Yeah I have the same problem, its from the doors sagging.
mines so bad that the bottom corner of the door scrapes on my GFX

Your more than likely going to have to rebuild the hinges
im pretty sure TDS has a rebuilt kit for them

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

That's a real bummer... I haven't had the car more than a year and when I bought it, the door's didn't sag at all. Oh well, I guess I'll be adding one more kit to my cart on TDS. lol.

Edit:
I really hope this isn't the kit you were reffering to. Seems a bit expensive for a minor setback like this...

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

That kit will solve the problem. But in essence that kit is just two of the greasable upper hinge kits plus a pistol-grip grease gun. If you're repairing just one door you can buy just one of either the TDS 200370 non-greasable or TDS 201370 greasable upper hinge repair kits. Both kits also include the lower pins and bushings. Before you buy anything though you should inspect the hinges closely to see if the movement is in the upper hinge pins or lower hinge pin and bushings. To do this, have someone lift and release the bottom of the door as you inspect the upper and lower hinges for movement. If you have movement in the upper hinge pins and bushings a lower hinge pin and bushings won't solve it.

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

Wow, Lon himself to the rescue. lol. I'm already planning on getting several items off your site but this one is debatable. The problem isn't really a big one, it's just a minor annoyance. Having to almost slam to door just to get it to close the right way is an annoyance.

I'll check the hinges out though as soon as weather permits.

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

remember to always keep hinges oiled if your not greasing them. after washing or in rain get them oiled back up, it will reduce wear, and help keep them good. but like i said, thats if your not greasing them.

I don't think I would really consider sagging doors on a unibody car minor, but thats OK if you want to.

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

Well, for me, this is just minor... they aren't sagging much at all. I can't even tell when closing the door or while the door is open. It's just when I don't close the door with more force than you would by casually closing them, if you lean against them they kinda slide a little bit.

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

I would agree with krisb410, that's not good on a unibody car.
Even if you have to spend some money get it fixed.

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

May just be slipping my mind... but what is so bad with my doors sagging just a tad that it needs prompt attention?

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

with unibody cars, the doors will provide more structure support than cars with a frame

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

But you really need to check and see if they are sagging at all. That may not even be your problem. Check it out and let us know.

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

From what I can tell, just by looking at them myself, they are... but just a tad. The drivers side started to squeek about 3 days ago, but I sprayed the hinges with WD-40.

WD40 is a great solvent or for driving out any water. Now spray them with white lithium grease to lube them.

When you slam the door and are sure it's completely latched how does it line up to the 1/4 panels? Is it even, or does it sit in a little? And does it close easier with the windows rolled down?

Re: Quick fix for my door problem?

Not much of a difference, but it does seem to close a little easier when the windows are down. When I close the doors with a little force, they catch and line up nicely... but when I just casually close the door like I would any other car and I lean on it... it opens a little bit, but won't actually open. Kinda like cracking the door, but it's still latched.
