Flipped my wing upside down

Since I have the notch and never plan to put the wing on it so I got board today and put the rear wing on the back.

But upside down.

I really hate being able to see so much of the under side of the car, the trunk well and junk that hangs below. Also gave me a place to better secure my exhaust tips.

Course the idea is sort of stole from RedRaiff but she made it seem harder then it was. If you look under where the bumper tabs clip into the metal bumper support and remove the two outer tabs you have two perfect pre-made holes to use. You just drill 1 hole each through the wing down the center of the wing leg support and it all lines up like magic.

I swear someone thought ahead of time as it all lines up to easy and is to easy to do.

That looks pretty good. And that was a good idea to hide everything under the car. Nice work

Here's Shannon's page : http://www.cardomain.com/ride/715283/7

She seems to imply there was something to do with her having the '84 GFX.

She also did the front: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/715283/6

Re: Flipped my wing upside down

I have actualy tired a TA wrap around spoiler on the front a while back but it totally killed air flow to the air dam and my temps went up to high for my taste.
So off it came. Sucker was also heavy as heck.

Coming across the steel needed to hold everything secure is the sticky point.
Trying to get it through remote channels like from a scrapper are my best bet so far. Paying full price would kill.

Re: Flipped my wing upside down

Ill take a little rice over being able to see all the junk hanging below the body.

Only has bother me since I got the notch as I love looking at the rear.
[ Best $150 ever spent.]

Thought of trying to fab some kind of skirt as I don't like anything that is made to date but that was way to easy to do, and does hide things and gives me a nice solid mount for my pipe tips.

Anyone wanna jump in this thread n offer adivce?

I'm not sold on the looks yet. Are you worried about the exhaust melting the spoiler? The tip looks awfully close to the spoiler. I think if the exhaust poked through between the body and the spoiler, instead of under the spoiler, it would look better; something doesn't look right with it where it is. Better yet, if you had two tips, one on either side of the spoiler next to the supports, maybe even with some type of grill insert to hide more of the undercarriage junk. Do you plan to blend the spoiler into the bumper at all on the outside? That would look tons better IMO. Just tossing ideas out there.

Tips use to be wires up against the plastic bumper, it didn't melt.
They are close to the spoiler, if you look they are bolted to it.

Had the fake dual tip look before, its dumb.
Unless you have true real duals from the engine all the way back, fake duals is rice. Don't care if GM did that factory, they also put fake hood scoops on cars.

The tips are in the center for the Euro style look like the hatch gives.

Anything could change at anytime.

Re: Flipped my wing upside down

I'll agree that GM did some dumb fake accessories before and true duals are always better, but I disagree somewhat on ALL 'fake' duals looking like rice. A friend has a car with a fake tip that literally leads to nothing (just bolted to the bumper's second tip cutout). That I don't like at all. However, my '95 Grand Prix GTP had a Y-pipe after the cat, going into two Flowmasters with Magnaflow stainless steel dual tips on either side and it sounded mean with only the 3.4L and looked even better. The style of tip you have is one of the things that looks out of place to me. It's a single wall; the ones that look mean are the double wall rolled lip tips. That alone would probably make this whole mod pop alot more. The downside is they are expensive, I paid $70 each for the ones on my GTP.

One other thing, do you plan on blending the spoiler to the rest of the body? The gaps don't look right IMO. Don't want to sound like I'm bashing you because that's not it. It's just not a look I'd go for on my own car, but I'm trying to let you know what may make it look better.

Re: Flipped my wing upside down

ehhh, I admire the effort, but come on guys, you do know it just looks like a random wing tacked on the bottom of the car? It really doesnt look like it belongs there. the wrap around in the front works a little better, but not quite right.

He isn't saying it "looks like" rice, he's saying it IS rice. If it's a fake dual, it's fake. What is rice? It's adding something for appearance that doesn't have any performance value, yes, i.e. fake?

I actually agree. I didn't notice the exhaust was already there. I thought he intended to put the spoiler there so he COULD run his exhaust.

Some square tips run in between the spoiler legs would look alright, but I don't like the two little pipes sticking below everything.

Your not expressing opinion, your trying to be an azz.
But what else do you expect form a cunuck.

I have never watched any of those movies cept for bits n pieces channel flipping.
Fake plastic blower and 128 speed gearboxes with never ending up shifts.

Only 1 tiny reason id even considers the 4th is it has a Buick in it.
Even then its dumb as the stuntmen were so afraid of the turbo 6 power they had to flip the body on backwards to drive it “backwards” fast.

im sure lots of riced out hondas have won awards, too. The point has been made that she doesnt care what anyone thinks when she added the 3rd wing to the car, so I'll agree with you there.

Re: Flipped my wing upside down

In RedRaifs defence she has won awards and been on TV for her car.

Some square tube exhaust port would be good, already thought of that.

Anything could change, all I did was take 10 mins to see if it was possiable and it was so easy to bolt it up there, it went on.

The car is a never ending project. Anything could change.

She wanted those hideous wheels and they had been discontinued (big surprise). They could only find them in a FWD offset with a Datsun lug pattern, so she is running 3 inch spacers or something like that.

Gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. I would not classify a factory two muffler setup as rice. Now if someone who owns such a vehicle decides to throw a couple of fart cannons on there, instead of actual mufflers, and proceeds to add obnoxious tips, then you have rice. I think Grand Prixs and 4th Gen T/As with the dual tip setup look really slick, for example. And as I stated, if there's a GFX kit with two cutouts for exhaust, and one is filled with merely a tip (i.e. my friend's car), then THAT is rice. You've gotta be stretching the definition quite a bit to include a factory two muffler system in the same category as rice.

a spoiler upside down just looks plain horrible. why not just build a chin spoiler using and combining other makes/model spoiler. sometimes stuff, can just be too much. clean is better.

All kinds of awards are given out nowadays, what did she win them in the special olympics, i know i shouldn't talk since my car is still in peices, but wash that car in gasoline and dry it with a match. IMHO

Re: Flipped my wing upside down

When I look at the rear picture posted of redraif's car, I think the upside down rear spoiler isn't as noticeable because theres so much to take in. The car is pretty wild looking and the spoiler isn't the first thing that catches my eyes. Her centermount exhaust is the first thing my eyes are drawn to. It even took me a minute to look over the picture to realize it has a double stacked spoiler. With Gumby's car, the two round tips throw off the square lines of the rear of the car. If he used a square shaped tip then I think it would look better. As for the whole turning spoilers upside down trend, its just not my taste, but to each his own.

Re: Flipped my wing upside down

Would the spoiler mounted upside down underneath like that cause lift on the backend?

Guess we'll find out when the thread starter comes back and says, "Since I put that spoiler under the rear bumper, I can spin my tires at 90 mph!!"

If that were true hat would already happen from the trunk well hanging down being a big flat surface.

If there is any chance of any effect it would be to stablize the rear as there is now a bit more side to side suface area back there.

Likea dog leg COT, to get that rear quarter out there to buffer against more air.

Speak what you will about redraif's car, but realize that her car is an exercise in "Get it done". She has pulled off things that many TG firebird owners mock openly but envy silently. The first thing that comes to mind is the popup headlight delete that people have wanted for so long.

Furthermore, she takes her car places, does things with it, and how many people in here can say that their car has been seen on "RIDES" and they have been interviewed about it ? I don't even think Kandied has been that far.

My point, Raifs car is unique to her individual tastes, and I wont knock you for not liking it as certain aspects of it do not appeal to me either, however give respect where its due.

Use your words carefully or an unknowing tuner might catch wind of this quote and decide to mount a supra spoiler on the bottom of their Honda.

Re: Flipped my wing upside down

This is should not be a discussion of what rice is or if you do not like that syle of car.

But it should be, does this make my car look trashy as hell or does it even look clean?

There have been things on here that I have not personally taken a liking to but were done in a clean and professional manor. Some of these on the other hand do not fall in to either of those subcategorys.

Well said. I can't believe after 10 years on this board, I still have to listen to the rice crap. It used to be a censored word on here at one time.

The moderators clearly don't give a crap anymore.

There is a reason its HER car not all you guys car.
at least raif is original. i personally love the upside down spoiler. And Mathius, The only reason i can figure these guys hate it so much is because they hate the idea of havin a chics car look better than theirs.

I for one am glad that rice is not censored anymore, mainly because its my last name. It really made it a pain sending people a PM with **** as a last name. LOL
